Demarco has come a long ways since he has been at Kentucky and his future looks bright.

Demarco Robinson doesn’t want to say he’s surprised by the success he’s had this season.

“I have not sat back and looked at the stats, but I don’t want to say I am surprised by what I have done. I actually wanted to do more,” said the senior receiver. “I just feel like I have done what I should do. Just at this point of my life, it has all come together.”

Of course, many were not sure — including Robinson — that his life would get to this point. Through 10 games last season, he had 20 catches for 213 yards and two scores when he was suspended for the final two games for disciplinary reasons. Two months later, Robinson was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Kentucky coaches were not happy with his behavior off the field — and let him know. But coach Mark Stoops did not boot him off the team as he had others with disciplinary issues after his arrival. Instead, he made it clear that Robinson had to work his way back into his good graces and then into offensive coordinator Neal Brown’s playing rotation.

Robinson did both and going into Saturday’s game at Louisville — a game UK has to win for the Wildcats to get bowl eligible — he has 31 catches for 442 yards and one score, a dazzling 79-yard play in the win over UT-Martin. He also has 22 punt returns for 179 yards

Robinson credits his parents, Sabrina Botts and Demarco Robinson, for helping him survive his off-field issues.

“They played a great role. I had a lot of ups and downs in career. They were behind me 100 percent of the way. When I was at my lowest, they helped me a lot. I am thankful for them and try to do all I can for them to say thanks,” Robinson, who caught 73 passes for a state-record 1,655 yards and 27 scores his senior year at Martin Luther King High School in Lithonia, Ga., said.

His parents gave him what he called “tough love” that he needed.
