Dereck Lively II is a player that most of Big Blue Nation is already familiar with.

Even though he doesn't currently hold a Kentucky offer, it seems as if he will end up being one of the most important recruits in the class of 2022. There’s hope that John Calipari and his staff can land the four-star prospect.

Lively recently took time to sit down with Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.com and gave some updates on his recruitment.

Fans will also be excited to hear that he had some good things to say about Kentucky, and how involved they are. Weingarten asked Lively to breakdown his thoughts on Kentucky and thoughts about the program and his upcoming visit.

Lively responded with this:

“I’ve recently been in high communications with Coach John Calipari, and our relationship has been a fun experience, has been a lot of talk over the phone FaceTime and zoom so it’s going to be great to meet him and the coaching staff when I visit on June 20th.”

Kentucky remains heavily involved with Lively. They are joined by Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, USC, Michigan, Florida State, Virginia, and Villanova. It is thought to be a three-horse race though between the blue bloods in Kentucky, Duke, and UNC. All three of these programs will receive a visit this summer as well. He visited UNC on June 8th, he will be at Kentucky on June 20th, and then in Durham on June 29th.

Weingarten also asked him if he had a commitment timeline in mind:

“Currently I do not have a commitment timeline but I will probably be decreasing my list in the next month or two.”

Kentucky will almost certainly be on that list. Lively does not currently hold an offer from the Cats, but fans should expect to hear that news break on his visit to Lexington this month.

Lively is currently ranked as a four-star prospect according to 247 Sports Composite Rankings. He is listed as the 35th player in the country. Expect to see him climb those rankings by the end of the summer circuit.
