Jalen Duren, one of the best players in all of high school hoops, is now planning to play college basketball for the 2021-22 season.

Originally a Class of 2022 recruit, the 6-10, 230-pound Duren is now planning to reclassify into the 2021 class with plans to be on a college campus this fall, according to Adam Zagoria, who added the G-League is also making a strong push.

He is also considering the NBA G-League and Australian NBL. One source said the NBA G League Select team is offering him more than $1 million to play there next season alongside Jaden Hardy and Mike Foster.

Though Duren is planning to play college hoops this fall, Zagoria adds the elite recruit will still play AAU ball this summer and compete in the Peach Jam. So while his 2021 recruitment is about to rev up to light speed, we could still be a month or two away from an official reclassification and college choice, a la N’Faly Dante in 2019 and Marvin Bagley in 2017.

Kentucky was going to be a major player in Duren’s recruitment if he stayed in 2022. Now that he’s in the 2021 class and Kentucky’s roster seemingly set, it’s unclear who will be the big contenders for the five-star center out of Florida.

Duren recently cut his list to Kentucky, Villanova, Michigan, Miami, Auburn, Alabama, UCLA, Penn State and Memphis, but I’d expect to see a few new schools enter the mix now that he’s set on playing college ball. The previous belief was he’d end up skipping college to play pro ball for a year before entering the NBA Draft.

For now, Duren is planning to officially visit Kentucky at the end of June.
