The Kentucky Wildcats may have one of the top classes already coming into Lexington next season, but the fight for better talent is never truly over.
With offers and visits out to some of the top prospects still remaining, the Cats remain in the hunt for five-star forward Greg Brown and four-star center Cliff Omoruyi. It just so happens Kentucky needs to add another frontcourt player with the likely departure of Nick Richards to go with Nate Sestina graduating, and there’s still a chance EJ Montgomery leaves for the pros as well.
In the case of Brown, things continue to look not great for Kentucky, at least according to an update from Rivals.com’s Corey Evans, who calls Texas and Memphis the favorites for the top-10 recruit, and overseas could even be an option.
The Longhorns were the perceived favorite for over a year, but rumors have begun to swirl that Memphis may have surpassed UT. Professional opportunities could also be explored, but chances remain strong that he plays in college.
Adding to this, Memphis has picked up the last five predictions in the Rivals FutureCast, including one from recruiting guru Eric Bossi. For whatever reason, Penny Hardaway and the Tigers seemed to have gained a firm lead in this recruitment heading down the stretch.
Part of the issue for Kentucky could actually be where Brown plays, as some recruiting services think he’ll be a small forward in college. With the inbound Terrence Clarke and BJ Boston, it seems unlikely the Wildcats would need another small forward, so perhaps that’s hurting their cause.
There’s no question Kentucky still needs more size, which Omoruyi could give them. Here’s what Evans offered up on the big man’s recruitment:
“He will select either Arizona State, Auburn, Kentucky, Rutgers or UConn, and he has already taken an official visit to Auburn. Rutgers was the lead early in the process, but thanks to his breakout this past summer things have become muddled.

We do have a good chance for Omoruyi at center but we have little or no chance for Brown. Bank on it.
