Makur Maker is one of the most intriguing prospects in the class of 2020, but there remains a real possibility that he will never play a game in college. Maker is currently weighing his options of playing professionally or at the collegiate level.
If you’ve seen any of his highlights as of late, then you understand what a tremendous talent that he truly is. Maker has looked like a complete cheat code this summer dominating opposing defenders with his ability to put the ball on the floor at 6-foot-11. He is the cousin of Pistons forward Thon Maker and packs the similar freakish wingspan.
Makur is currently ranked as the 4th overall player in the class of 2020 via 247 Sports. From a Kentucky Wildcats perspective, it is no surprise they appear to be hanging back until Maker has a better idea of what he wants to do, but he did say Kentucky is still recruiting him along with the UCLA Bruins, Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans and Washington State Cougars.
Here is Smith’s entire quote about where UK factors in:
“From my perspective with Kenny Payne and Coach Cal, they are straight with what they say. They want you to come to them when we figure out the pathway we are taking, because everyone is wondering how much effort they should put into Makur.” Smith said.
“Cal knows he can play at Kentucky, he knows what type of player he is and he knows he can help them. They came and made an in-home visit and they were strong about what the game plan could be.”
At this stage I’d say it’s safe to say that the Cats aren’t extremely optimistic about adding Maker to their 2020 rewriting class, but a lot can change before it’s all said and done.
