The newcomers

Dontaie Allen

Position: Forward

2019-20 class: Freshman

Outlook: The 2019 Mr. Kentucky Basketball, Allen's status for next season is still uncertain as he rehabs from a torn ACL suffered in December. If Allen works his way into the rotation in the spring semester, he could add some needed 3-point shooting on the wing.

Keion Brooks

Position: Forward

2019-20 class: Freshman

Outlook: Brooks could play the three and four for Kentucky, but he shot just 30.2% (19 for 63) from 3-point range in 19 games on the Nike EYBL circuit before his senior year. The 6-foot-7 forward will likely compete with fellow freshmen Kahlil Whitney and Johnny Juzang for a spot in the starting lineup, but he should be a key rotation member either way.

Brennan Canada

Position: Forward

2019-20 class: Freshman

Outlook: A walk-on from George Rogers Clark High School, Canada should add some frontcourt depth to next season's roster. At 6-foot-7, he provides a useful practice body and averaged closed to a double-double per game as a senior (15 points and 9.5 rebounds).

Johnny Juzang

Position: Guard

2019-20 class: Freshman

Outlook: The most recent addition to next season's roster, Juzang arrives at Kentucky after reclassifying from the 2020 to 2019 class. He immediately become the best 3-point shooter on the roster, and could follow the footsteps of Tyler Herro and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander by turning a four-star recruiting ranking into a one-and-done UK career. Whether Juzang starts at the three or not likely depends on who is available in the post and whether Kentucky goes small with Whitney or Brooks starting at the four.

Tyrese Maxey

Position: Guard

2019-20 class: Freshman

Outlook: The early favorite to lead UK in scoring next season, Maxey has the ability to play with the ball in his hands but will benefit from sliding to his more natural two position thanks to Hagans' return. Hagans' pass-first mentality should pair perfectly with Maxey's scoring ability in Kentucky's starting backcourt. Maxey attempted 204 3s as a senior, but needs to improve his 31% success rate from behind the arc.

Looking ahead: John Calipari: UK signee Tyrese Maxey 'rarely makes the wrong play'

Nate Sestina

Position: Forward

2019-20 class: Senior

Outlook: Sestina, a Bucknell graduate transfer, looks like a poor-man's Washington on paper thanks to his ability to stretch the floor (38% from 3-point range last season) and rebound (8.5 boards per game). Even if Kentucky returns Richards and Montgomery, Sestina could push for a starting job. If the Wildcats lose one of those players to the draft, his role becomes even more important.

The future: Keion Brooks and Nate Sestina sign with UK. Calipari expects big things

Kahlil Whitney

Position: Forward

2019-20 class: Freshman

Outlook: The No. 12-ranked recruit in the 2019 class according to the 247Sports Composite, the 6-foot-6 Whitney could play as a four in a small lineup for Kentucky or start at the 3. Whitney might not give Kentucky much from 3-point range (he averaged 1.3 3s per game as a senior) but boasts a similar game to former Wildcat Alex Poythress and is currently projected as a first-round pick in the 2020 NBA draft by ESPN.

Expectations: John Calipari: Kahlil Whitney in same mold 'as best players we've had'.
