Is it unpatriotic of me to hope the women's national soccer team loses? There attitude towards the president is appalling to me.

RTL, I've kept my mouth shut on this topic for a couple of weeks now. Not only do I find several of these women repulsive as far as their statements in the media, I just feel they act like show-offs on the field as well. In all of sports, there are some teams you don't mind losing to. This soccer team is not one of those.

So I'm with you - I hope they get shellacked!

I honestly don't get why soccer is such a big deal these days. I understand when people tell me watching golf on television is boring, but to me watching soccer is even worse! I think the average soccer score is 0-0. Now soccer might be a fun sport to play, but to watch and actually get all excited about it... I just don't get it.

Soccer, globally, is the most popular sport. It's easily accessible for kids in the ultra-impoverished nations of Africa just as it is for the wealthy countries. It's never really caught on here in the US for whatever reason, though. I grew up playing soccer and even I have a hard time following the MLS, major league soccer. I do, however, watch the World Cup play as it only comes around every 4 years (last year was the mens, and the USA didn't even qualify). The big deal about the women's game this time around was there have been 8 Women's World Cup tournaments of all time, and the USA women have won half of them. For a country that doesn't care much about soccer, that's a pretty dominating statistic. I agree that these women, and all athletes, should keep their political views to themselves. But the fact that our country is able to put out such a dominating team in a sport that's barely on the radar here is pretty impressive.

I was pulling for them even if I don’t personally care for their bravado and political views. I even watched one game and was mildly excited.

I watched and even felt proud as a America citizen. I just wish player's like Rapinoe would just keep her mouth shut.

I agree. People of a celebrity status, even a minor one, need to recognize that children are looking up to them. This goes back to the Dixie Chicks for me, more recently was kaepernick. They're contributing to the brainwashing of the generation of kids between, say, 6 and 16, who adore these folks. Let your talent on the competition site speak for itself; we shouldn't be bombarded with your political nonsense.

Disrespecting the flag and the anthem started with Kapernic, who Nike financed the whole time. The sorry ass owners caved like little boys being bullied out of their lunch money.

Had they simply enforced the rules that already had on the books, it would have never gotten this far.

If I were the coach of the US soccer team, I would have kicked that little tart off the team, captain or no captain. If the lesbians of the world didn't like it, they could find a new coach to let them act like hooligans, the next time around.

There is nothing new about disrespecting the flag. I remember people burning the flag in the 70’s and many, many other instances of disrespect.

These idiots have nothing over past generations.

This time around, because of ESPN, media outlets, and social media, it became a much larger deal than in the past. We even saw high school and elementary kids emulating Kapernic I was delighted to see a high school coach kick three players off his team for pulling that crap. That is what the NFL owners should have done, bunch of pansies.
