Can FMC be used outdoors? I've searched the internet and the only thing I'm confused about is it can't be used in "wet conditions". What does that mean?

I searched Bing for 'FMC' with no results, other than some company named FMC. I have no clue what it is. Are you "messing with me"?

When I went to Boeing school the FMC was part of the computer system on a chinook. The AFCS " Automated flight control system "

Not messing Norm......FMC=Flexible Metal Conduit.
I wan to run some cable for lights and receptacles in my carport. They will be protected from rain and direct sunlight, but otherwise will be exposed since the carport is an "open" structure (no walls except where attached to the house).

Regular romex cable should be fine up under the carport roof. Where you come down posts or the house wall, I'd use pvc conduit and plastic waterproof boxes.

Ok thanks. The reason I ask about the FMC is my neighbor has some I can get real cheap but I couldn't make sense of the "wet conditions" restriction.

The flex conduit is made sort of like an interlocking spring, but is not water tight. It is used to protect the cable from physical damage, not moisture.

About the only hold up for FMC and exterior wiring is "wet conditions", which I take to mean directly exposed to rain, snow, etc....but I really don't know what it means.
Don't worry bout it... Ain't that important...preshate the help. [ 11-03-2018, 04:15 PM: Message edited by: MountainMafia ]
