Trump's White House

On Friday, the Trump administration released their annual report to Congress on White House Office Personnel. It includes the name, status, salary and position title of all 377 White House employees.

The report also showed that President Trump is far better at saving money than Obama was. The total annual White House salaries under Trump are $35.8M vs. $40.9M under Obama, a savings of $5.1M.

Here are some other key findings:

There are 110 fewer employees on White House staff under Trump than under Obama at this point in their respective presidencies.

Nineteen fewer staffers are also dedicated to the First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS). Currently, there are only five staffers dedicated to Melania Trump vs. 24 staffers who served Michelle Obama (FY2009) BUT, it's what the report said Trump did with this salary that has everyone talking.

The report also said that Trump decided not to take a dime of his salary, instead he donated it to amazing causes! The $ 78,333.32 that President Donald Trump donated from his first paycheck as President was donated to Department of the Interior or National Park Service, which faces major cuts in first budget proposal. It will be used for construction and repair needs at military cemeteries.

Education Secretary Betsy De Vos announced that President Trump was donating $100K plus his salary for the second quarter of the year, to the Education Department to help fund a science camp. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)-focused camp for students.

President Trump will donate his third quarter salary as President back to the government for programs raising the awareness of opioid problems.

Oh, and where's the media coverage of this? That's right, they don't cover anything decent that the President does..

I've said this before, when you consider net worth, I'm given more to charities than Trump. I threw $20 in the Salvation Army pot last Christmad.

Handy that is just his salary - you (and I) (probably?)have no idea how much "more" he gives. He may be the 1st President that has done that. Obama for example as an youth organizer became a multi millionaire while he served for eight yrs and I don't recall him giving his salary to worthy causes.

"I’m accepting no salary, OK? That’s not a big deal for me.” ....Donald Trump.

Like you said hc....$20 means more to you than $400,000 means to Trump.

There are millions of Americans who tithe to the church of their choice and also give to other charities such as the United Way, St Jude's etc. The vast majority of them do not look for praise for their generosity. Is there anyone on here who believes Trump actually gives anywhere close to that percentage of his annual income?

you (and I) ( probably?) have no idea how much more he gives

With Trumps propensity to brag, that information would have certainly been "leaked".

I'm willing to concede Trump has succeeded beyond my wildest expectations in his performance as POTUS. That doesn't mean I'm willing to think of him as a saint. Unless the Republican Party can come up with a viable alternative in the primary of 2020, I'll vote for Trump. Damn that hurt. But I will not give him credit for meaningless gestures like donating his salary. We have many crooked politicians here in Illinois who "donate" their salary. No, I'm not accusing him of being a crook since he has been in office

I'm not sure why Obama keeps coming up in almost every thread. IMO, he did a terrible job and I had a hard time understanding the blind loyalty he inspired in his followers? On the other hand, I'm somewhat puzzled by Trump supporters.

ok fine - he has done something no other president has done. not a meaningless gesture in my mind.

ps. generally the only thing ref "trump" that is leaked to the press is if the gesture was negative toward him not positive!

Hoover and Kennedy also gave their salaries to charity. But you are right Ed....it is a nice gesture and he does deserve credit.

I should have said "in over 50 yrs as the below indicates. ty for the correction

Donald Trump will be the first president in over half a century to refuse to take the $400,000 presidential salary. From the start of his campaign, the President-elect has vowed to set aside his business responsibilities if elected, and in his 60 Minutes interview on Sunday, his children said they would be taking over those duties. At one point during the interview, Eric said, “… we’ll be in New York and we’ll take care of the business. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun doing it. And we’re going to make him very proud.” Trump added on, “This is big league stuff. This is– this is our country. Our country is going bad. We’re going to save our country. I don’t care about hotel occupancy. It’s peanuts compared to what we’re doing. Health care, making people better. It’s unfair what’s happened to the people of our country and we’re going to change it. As simple as that.”

Trump first revealed he would not be taking the presidential salary if elected at an event in Rochester, New Hampshire, on September 17, 2015. “The first thing I’m going to do is tell you that if I’m elected president, I’m accepting no salary, okay? That’s not a big deal for me.”

Who else has forgone the salary in the past? According to the Independent Journal Review, John F. Kennedy was the wealthiest man ever sworn into the presidency, and gave his presidential salary to charity once he got into the White House (he did the same with his congressional salary).

Herbert Hoover, who served as the 31st President of the United States from 1929 to 1933, had an estimated net worth of about $4 million in 1913, according to the Independent Journal Review. His money came from mining. After stepping into office, Hoover split his salary between a number of charities, and put the rest towards his staff’s salary.

According to Forbes, Trump has an estimated net worth of about $3.7 billion.
