We have family and friends who live in Marshall county Ky and they have children, grandchildren etc who attended Marshall High school. My cousin and her husband have a nephew who was shot in the face in this tragedy and a granddaughter who witnessed the event.

Their Granddaughter went to Frankfort for a rally to prevent school violence. IMO, she gave a wonderful, intelligent and moving presentation. Part of her speech included the possibility of banning AR15's, bump stocks, more thorough background checks and raising the legal age to purchase firearms.

She and others participates were immediately attacked for their views on social media and I mean attacked. Shame on them. My guess is many of these asses never have had a weapon pointed at them. It was the usual BS about protecting the 2nd Ammendme etc etc. IMO, there is absolutely nothing sacred about the Second Ammendment. It was not written by God. It was written by a bunch of old racist white men who, by today's standards, were uneducated and highly biased by the time they lived in. For those who believe it is sacred and should not be changed in any shape form or fashion, I can only believe you also believe in having slaves, not allowing women to vote etc etc.

If your argument is to keep the second amendment completely unchanged to protect the "people" from a government run amuck, good luck standing on your porch with your AR15 as tanks roll down your street and bombs are dropped in your neighborhood.

Do I believe that any of the restrictions these kid
kids have proposed will make a difference? Probably not but I'm willing to try something. The NRA has way too much power in this country and in spite of what Trump has said, he also is afraid to buck them despite him making fun of others that he says are afraid of them.

I'll continue to be a gun owner with absolutely no fear of the government taking away guns to protect my home and for hunting.

For Gods sake, give these kids a break. Some of them has lived through hell at a very young age through no fault of their own.

Social media is a huge detriment in this country. All it is is a public forum for idiots to shed their useless opinions on topics they usually know nothing about.

Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

Not only am I against raising the age to buy a long gun, I am against any age restrictions beyond 18.

18 needs to be the benchmark age for everything.

Bleeding heart liberals alwyas miss the mark.

The root cause of the school shooting is not guns or gun laws. It was mentally deranged person who gave a thousand warning signs that he was unstable and the authorities did ot take it seriously.

Those people that threaten violence should be prosecuted, expecially in regards to mass shootings or assisnations. There have been a boat load of threats on the Trump's life and no arrests.

Those damn celebritis or quasi celebrities need to be prosecuted ad jailed for that crap.

Kids being bullies, socially and in the media need to be kicked out of school. They are a big part of the problem.

Butlet's not blame the root cause. Lets blame guns!

Boom, I really don't have a problem with anything you say in your post.

What I have a problem with is the people who can hide behind social media and attack anyone who disagrees with their opinions, including children who have been through traumatic events in their life's. To me, that's crossing the line of common decency. Even President Trump, who is famous for attacking anyone and everyone on social media, would never do this.

Are you saying I am attacking kids who have been traumatized?

Not at all and I don't see how you could get that out of my post. None the less, I apologize if you thought so.

But believe me, a lot of people have.

I think the teachers have put the students up to the walking out thing. I am all for students trying to make a difference. Do think they should learn what they are protesting for or against.

I am not anti teacher, but I do think tenure has insulated them from the real world. I do think Law enforcement and teachers should make more. But tenure is a bad thing in my book. I know of no other profession, except for maybe a federal judge, where your performance doesn't matter a whole lot.

Our society has gotten away from protecting the rights and safety of the masses to keep from offending the rights of the few. Yes, I am for kicking kids out of school who are threatening.

Maybe our country will wake up and take threats seriously. I dont think people should be able to make threats and then say they were just joking.

Putting an end to welfare and making it okay to have a single parent home has cost this country dearly. Kids who grow up with both parents are more likely to succeed, in my opinion.

I think some have but here in central Illinois some have taken just the opposite stance. A few had said that if any student in their district walked out they would be suspended for a day and not allowed to participate in any extracurricular activities for the year including sports, band, choir etc etc. I know this to be true as two of these school districts are in our immediate area. I find that a little extreme.

IMO, if you can't buy a beer or a gun until age 21, You shouldn't be allowed to vote or serve in the military either. Fair is fair. If you are too immature to drink a beer, you're damn sure too immature to choose a political office holder. AND, if you cant own a gun, you sure as Hell don't belong in the ARMED services.

Though I probably would disagree with the position of these young people and am a strong supporter of the right to bear arms, I have cringed as I have watched people on social media call these kids stupid, etc. one can state their position without the name calling and insults. I would love to see a conversation about ending violence in our schools, but that conversation has to be broader than just focusing on the tool.

Ga Cat, I feel as you do. But "conversations" in the public arena are little more than shouting matches these days. Two sides just scream past one another... our democracy is in a terribly unhealthy state.

Amen. I was just having this very discussion with my 15 year old son.

I agree with the 3 above posts. I will also admit I contribute to the problem. I didn't mean for this thread to turn into another useless gun control debate but I suppose I didn't choose my words well.
