Karl Anthony-Towns continues to convince the world that he’s the runaway favorite for Rookie of the Year.
After getting nine double-doubles and averaging 21.1 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.63 blocks per game in the month of February, today he earned his fourth straight Western Conference Rookie of the Month award. Even when it was time to take off during the All-Star break, he was too busy winning to get away from basketball. With big men featured in the Taco Bell Skills Challenge for the first time, the Rook took home the title.
Even though they’ve struggled all year, the Timberwolves are trying to shake things up in the second half of the season by feeding Karl until he can’t eat anymore. From Scott Howard-Cooper at NBA.com:
“The final full month of the regular season arrives with Towns becoming something of the first option in Minnesota, a shift that began in February as a whole and developed with more clarity since the All-Star break.” He added, “It has reached the point that the Minnesota offense is essentially now going through Towns.”
The T’Wolves aren’t putting up many more wins, but his production hasn’t slowed down. After receiving his Rookie of the Month award from January, last night he had a double-double (14 points,15 rebounds) in a close loss to the Wizards.
