Born and raised in Northern KY..... grew up with my little league years going to Crosley Field, my Jr/Sr years of HS were 75/76 and the Big Red Machine...... and now on to this crew.....
Baseball doesn't hold the luster for me it did years ago... 2 strikes with millionaires holding us all hostage kinda burned my memories.... I try to watch, but its painful.... 3.5 hours cuts into a whole lot of fishing time... and if its raining, they aren't playing ball anyway... so what to do????
171 days till Big Blue Madness.... that's what!

Maybe Votto can live up to his pay this year. Complete bust since 2010 IMO.
-------------------- Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

One of the most overrated players on this team is Jay Bruce IMO. He's making 12 million a yr and has a life time BA of .251. Any bench player can hit that. He can play good defense though. I have this argument a lot, but I think outfield defense is way overrated. Most hits are simple fly-outs. There might be a few challenging hits per game. I see many unpopular players make outstanding catches all the time. One last thing I disagree with is "pitching wins championships". Yes pitching is important but you better have hitting. Proof is last year we had outstanding starting pitching that would give up 2-3 runs a game and then we get shut out or maybe score 1 run. Just look what the giants did last year. They had average pitching but not bad, great clutch hitters and good defense and they win the title. [ 04-10-2015, 04:43 PM: Message edited by: blue hoot ]

All the Reds care about is reds fest, reds hall of fame, bobble heads, findlay market parade, hot stove league & opening day. Scouting sucks, no off-season moves to improve the team, overpaying players & signing old washed up players. The one thing this organization can do very well is running the promotions. That doesn't win championships. We haven't won a title 25 years! Sorry to be so negative but I've been a die hard Reds fan all my life and just tired of drinking the Koo-Aid.

blue hoot,
I agree with a lot of what you said, but the Giants did not have average pitching in the playoffs. They won the World Series on Madison Bumgarner's arm, without him they don't even represent the NL in the World Series. He is awesome.

I gotta agree, kinda what I was alluding to... Over paid, under perform... I just don't understand these guys, makin millions but sitting for days on "sore hams, or quads" etc....
I go to work every day with a broken heart, for a whole lot less money than that... and these broken hearts can take a long time to heal..

Trey Ball, That's True Bumgarner was outstanding in that series but to what I was talking about is value. They won with a $2.5 million arm. Granted this year its only $6 million. What really bothers me about this team is we've been struggling for many years to spend money because we are a small market team. Finally, with the new owners "Castellini and Company", they have been ranking in the top 10 in payrolls and show nothing for it. I mean we have a higher payroll than the redbirds and even much higher than the Braves too. Problem is we overspend for players and that's not good. It's so bad that all we had to do is add some offense in the off-season and we couldn't even afford that. So in the end we settle for a 37 year old-cast-off in Marlon Byrd. Not terrible but pretty much a bandage on a wound. This organization keeps doing knee-jerk moves and it's costing them. For example back in I believe 2010 Jay Bruce hits the division-clinching walk off home run to give us the division. We were 6 games up and obviously at the time we had the division rapped up. I told my wife that Bruce's home run will cost $50 million, by god that is exactly what they did. BTW he is hitting .188 this year, its early I know but as you can tell I have no confidence in that guy.
I love talking baseball and would love to talk more with you guys. Again I don't want to sound negative but just stating some points. I try to watch every Reds game I can.
P.S Really enjoy watching Meseraco. He's off to a slow start but he is an excellent catcher with a beautiful swing and can hit. Also has a tremendous attitude and works his tail off.

FlaCatz, do you mind if I ask where you went to high school? I grew up in Covington and graduated from Holmes in 1985.
The first game of the season already threw off my excitement. Cueto throws seven great innings. The Reds bring in a relief pitcher in the eighth who gives up a tying home run. Then they bring in another pitcher who throws one pitch, gives up a hit, and then gets taken out of the game. How are fans supposed to stay interested in the radio or TV broadcast when there's more down time and commercials than actual game play. The game is way too slow. Whatever happened to the complete game by a pitcher? That has become extinct!
