He was a very special player and even the greatest players in the game knew it and talked about it in this special video.

As far the greatest player, I wouldn't ever give him that honor. The greatest player moniker is subject to interpretation. He definitely is "one of the best" to have ever played.

What kills me is that there are so few white guys in the NBA, whenever a new one makes a splash, there is always a rush to compare the player to some great white player of the past. In reality, there will never be another Larry Bird, just like there will never be another Doctor J or Michael Jordan.

Has there been a great white player in the NBA in the last 10 to 15 years from America? All of the great white players seem to come out of Canada or Europe, at least that is what I have noticed.

Rex Chapman was the last great white player at Kentucky. He is my second most favorite player at Kentucky, behind Kenny Sky Walker.

We have a kid that may get drafted by the time he is a junior or a senior. We shall see how he develops. Don't know yet. It would be nice to see him make it. He is a ton more athletic than the kid that transferred to get playing time.

Yea Boom I'm sorry I forgot about Willis, and I do think he will get drafted. but it depends on how much playing time under cal he will get.

For the record, I don't care what race a kid is, as long as he can play. I still remember fans that clamored for Kentucky to offer a scholly to Mr Kentucky every season, (the player who is voted the best male high school basketball player in the state). Richie Farmer is an example of a kid that was not good enough to play at Kentucky. Neither was Feldhous or Pelphry.

I want the kids who can play at an elite level. Don't care if a player is white, as long as he can play. Willis has talent and is athletic. He will get his chance to shine. The great white players, and there have not been that many of them, just don't seem to make it to Kentucky. That doesn't bother me one bit. I want the best of the best, what ever color they may be.

I am happy with whomever Cal recruits. If a player happens to be white, I know the kid is a player and can help the team.

The huge Turkish center that Cal had brought in was a beast and the NCAA wouldn't let him play. He would have dominated college basketball for a year. Jorts would not have gotten the playing time he did, had Enes Kanter been allowed to play.
I think going against Kanter in practice is what made Jorts the player he turned into his senior season. So, I don't think Cal looks at color. He goes after the best talent. There just aren't that many elite white players out there.

Larry Bird is one player that could have played in any era and been one of the very best. I can't think of to many of the older players you could say that about. Magic, Wilt, Jordon, Jabbar and Russell are the ones I would think qualify.

You could probably add Julius Erving to that list.
