After a snail's pace from the beginning it looks like we may be seeing the real UK BB team we thought we had back in October. It also looks like Cal has started changing his philosophy a little. We are now clearing the lane a little better and it is working. One area to prove this is the rebounding. Oscar's number has went down and Toppin and Livingston's number has gone up. We are now seeing 3 guys get a decent number of rebounds. Close to 30 between the 3 of them. Reeves has been open for a lot more open shots and he is making them. I'm wondering how the return of Wheeler will affect all this?? If this all continues we could see 3 or 4 of these guys go in the draft.

They are playing much better. To make any sort of run they are going to have to continue to improve on the defensive end as well. I still think good offensive teams are going to give them problems, but they are way ahead of where they were 5 weeks ago.
I've come to the conclusion that most offenses in college are just not that good anymore. UK's adjusted offensive efficiency is #13 in the country, which is just hard to believe. However, I started watching some other teams and there are truly only a handful of great offensive teams out there so I guess it makes sense that UK is #13.
-------------------- Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

I know Cal isn't a fan of running a big lineup, but Tshiewbe, Toppin, and Livingston are a great combo, on offense, defense, and rebounding. They play off each other quite well. With both Wallace and Reeves (or CJ) able to hit the 3, that lineup is just hard to guard.

This Vandy game scares me tonight. They are paying very good, and have a very solid 7 footer that could give Oscar problems. I hope if Oscar can't score against hime that he is a facilitator, even though he's not a great passer. If he hits his 15 footer that may pull the big away from the rim. We are going to have to play well tonight to get this win. Hope we can play like we did against Auburn in the 2nd half. If we do that we will be fine against anybody.

Well that didn't happen. Like I've said several times this year "when this team is hot everyone is hot. When they're cold everyone is cold". When you make your shots you win and when you don't you lose.
This team is destined to lose to Arkansas and lose their double bye. Unless they can get lucky and everyone has a hot hand on Saturday. I doubt it.
One loss to Ark and one loss in the SEC Tourney. Then one loss in the NCAA's and this horrible season is over. These guys either can't play good defense or they don't want to. Either way they are very poor when it comes to protecting the basket. What they are is a good tease. They get you on board and then they dump you.

I just don't get it. Reeves was wide open all, night, long and couldn't hit water if he threw it off a boat. Give Vandy credit - they're playing really well. But missing ten free throws and 16 out of 19 3-pointers, most of which were wide open shots??? I just don't get it.

This is just not one of Cal's teams that was destined to do good. At least not good enough to have under 10 losses.

We shot 30 two pointers in addition to layups and missed most of them. Vandy let them that is why they were open shots. Cal said that was his gameplan to shoot 2's. How stupid is that? NO ONE in basketball does that other than Cal.
In fact it was pointed out on KSR that only 5 players in the entire NBA makes 50% of those type shots and only ONE makes 52%.
for 30 points one has to make 15 of 30 to get to 50% and from the three-point line 33% make 10 . THats why teams shoot so many - does he not see that? what an arcade comment he made "our gameplan was to shoot the 2's" Excuse me coach you were open cause Vandy wanted u to shoot them!
Also their big went down in the 1st 5 mins - Oscar should have had 10=15 more shots
Just poor planning and execution by us..
P.S. as an aside = I had a guy on my HS team that shot 10+ 3's one game and missed them all - I told him to stop and play inside like he is supposed to. His remark was "but coach I am wide open!" I told him that "there is a reason u r" (I refrained from saying "cause u cant hit long ones!} [ 03-03-2023, 08:57 AM: Message edited by: ukcatfannfl ]

Would we really want very many of these seniors to stay another year, and take a chance on them messing up the incoming frosh????
