I'm not sure when the SEC went to an unbalanced schedule but it may have started last year, or I just didn't notice it when they did it. We have played an 18 game schedule for a good while now but I thought we played each team in the east twice which is 12 games and the other 6 were rotated between the 7 teams on the west side? But this year we are only playing MO, GA and SC one time. I have a funny feeling I'm missing something here. Did we go to just one group, no East and West and I just forgot it? If so I guess they just rotate the schools you play each year and all but the rivalry teams we play just once? WE play TN, VY and FL twice as rivalries and two different teams each year, like we have AL and LSU twice.

This has been the norm since 2016:

The SEC East and SEC West no longer apply to basketball. Instead, each team has three "permanent" opponents; UK's are (as you surmised) Tennessee, Vandy, and Florida.
We play each team in the league once, and we play our "permanent opponents" twice. The two other games are against opponents determined on a rotating basis. [ 01-18-2022, 06:43 PM: Message edited by: Tiptree ]

Thanks Tip. The more I wrote that the more I started to remember what you just said. That's the way it is when you're about to turn 81 in 49 more days.

I suppose that when the expansion to include Texas and Oklahoma is complete, the two "rotating" opponents will drop off and we will play every team once, and our "permanent" opponents twice.

Probably but you never know, they may split into 2 divisions again since they would have an even number in each division (8). They could play 2 games with the other 7 in their division and rotate with 1 game with half(4) of the teams in the other division every other year.

That would probably work for Basketball, but I can't imagine we would have an eastern division with AL, AU, FL, GA, and TN in football. That would be a crazy to think about.

To make it better for FB you could switch AL & AU to the west and bring MO & AR over to the East.
