This week’s edition of the John Calipari Show was more eventful and newsworthy than most of its predecessors. Coach Cal said that he met individually with three members of the team on Monday and revealed that Terrence Clarke will miss 7-10 more days with an ankle sprain. He also dropped a line we haven’t heard in a while, “It’s still not communism.”
Calipari told his team that starting positions are up for grabs and saw an immediate response from a handful of individuals in practice. Who might that be? As Jack Pilgrim detailed, Calipari did not get into specifics, but did state that analytics point to one lineup in particular that performs better offensively than the rest. The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie looked into the numbers to provide some clarity.
FWIW, if you remove Clarke lineups from the equation, the two best lineups offensively for Kentucky this season (in limited sample time), per @Pivot_Analysis:
Mintz, Askew, Boston, Toppin, Jackson: 1.25 PPP
Mintz, Askew, Boston, Brooks, Sarr: 1.19 PPP.

I cannot believe that the best offensive lineup does not include Allen.

No wonder Cal keeps losing, he just won't admit that Boston is hurting the team.

According to the article, Boston is part of the two best offensive lineups.
I just don't see it. But then again, maybe I am getting jaded in my old age.

It probably looks at all possessions for the entire season, and Allen hasn't been involved in half of those. I'm sure that's why these skewed statistics have us puzzled.

Always remember you can make stats say pretty much anything you want them to.

Cal is either ignoring or hoping we don't notice that Boston has the most points with THE MOST SHOTS ATTEMPTED. that means he has one of the most worse shooting %%. We noticed Cal, so come up with another reason to start THE WORST SHOOTING PERSON ON THE TEAM. We weren't born yesterday. I believe I've been following UK BB longer than Cal has been coaching....ANYWHERE!!
