We’ve talked a lot about Kentucky’s woes, but the LSU Tigers are licking their wounds right now too. LSU lost to Alabama by 30 in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, further proof that the Crimson Tide is a cut above the rest of the league midway through the season. With both teams coming off tough losses, Will Wade said he’s expecting a battle tomorrow night in Rupp Arena.
“It’s going to be two desperate teams. I think Kentucky’s going to respond after the tough ending there at Georgia and I think our guys are going to respond so it’s going to be two, hard-playing desperate teams on Saturday.”
Wade spoke at length about how his team “got [its] doors blown off” vs. Alabama, citing poor transition defense, offensive spacing, and defensive rebounding as factors to the 105-75 defeat. We all may be down about the Cats right now, but Wade is very concerned about how his squad will handle Kentucky’s defense, particularly at the rim.
“They’re a tremendous defensive team. They’re an elite defensive team. They’re an elite shot-blocking team. They’re a great offensive rebounding team. Those statistical categories match up with areas that are not always strengths of ours.”
“We spent a lot of time yesterday getting our spacing better because if we don’t get our spacing better, Kentucky’s gonna have that lane so clogged up they’re gonna be blocking everything…Kentucky’s good enough without us helping them out with our poor spacing so we gotta focus on ourselves.”
