The Kentucky-Louisville basketball rivalry has reached a new low. The teams are unranked and fans are indifferent.
When the ball is tipped-off at the Yum! Center this Saturday at 1 pm, it will be just the fifth time in 44 matchups that neither Kentucky or Louisville will ranked in the top 25 of the AP Poll. Not only are the teams playing poorly, the playful animosity between the two is difficult to find, despite efforts from each side.
Kentucky’s struggles have been well-documented on Kentucky Sports Radio dot com. The Wildcats are in the middle of the longest losing streak since John Calipari became the head basketball coach. After the most recent loss Calipari didn’t just suspend a player, he sent Cam’ron Fletcher home. Kentucky’s two top-ranked prospects have not played like future NBA stars and we still have not seen the only returning scholarship player on the court in a basketball game.
Things aren’t that much better at Louisville. Chris Mack’s Cardinals got Molly-whopped by Wisconsin last Saturday. The final score was 85-48, but the Badgers could have named their score. They have a couple of nice wins, defeating Seton Hall and Western Kentucky at home, but COVID-19 forced the Cards to take a two-week break. Injuries have sidelined a couple of posts, most notably Malik Williams, and Carlik Jones was unavailable last Saturday.
Even if Jones returns to the court tonight and Louisville smacks around Pitt, UofL fans will still be too fearful to talk any sort of trash. Kentucky’s 11-2 run over the last decade has been entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable, but John Calipari’s domination of Louisville has ruined the rivalry.

I still want us to win. Cal has put himself in a hole with this team. Not sure he can dig out of this one. Beating the dirty birds would be a good start.

If we lose to UL we won't make the NCAA tourney. Even so, I think we need to go on one hell of a run at this point to avoid another NIT season.

I just took another look at the schedule, and I don't see a game where we should be favored. I wouldn't bet one dollar on UK winning another game this season.

THe recruits may be overrated but the team is not. After what I read this morning we are ranked 357 out of 357.

Cal screwed up by putting together a one-dimensional team (which seems to be the norm the last few years). I honestly think if every team we play the rest of this season plays a zone against us we'll end up with about five wins. If you limit our fast-break layups and play a zone against us, we'll be lucky to score 50 points.
Basketball strategy is simple - outscore your opponent. Cal either doesn't know this or he's a poor judge of skill.
