Point guard Nolan Hickman poured in a game-high 36 points, including four 3-pointers, in Eastside Catholic's 85-62 win over O'Dea in the Metro League Tournament semifinal.
Hickman did more than enough to catch Kentucky's eye and after a behind-the-scenes recruitment, became the Wildcats' first 2021 commitment, choosing UK over Kansas, UCLA, and Arizona among others on Aug. 22.
Respected talent evaluator Rashad Phillips says sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
"Calipari goes to watch Paolo who’s a great kid/player (O’Dea) vs Eastside Catholic. Nolan Hickman hangs (36) points in a wicked fashion. Now off to UK," Phillips tweeted. "Moral of the story: You never know what the slot machines will give but there’s a chance you’ll hit the jackpot. UK DID!"
