Over the past several years the college basketball grad transfer pool has become like a secondary recruiting class. With the current unprecedented circumstances surrounding the sports universe this season’s decisions could prove to be crucial for teams looking to fill a void or add depth.
It’s presumably that Kentucky is will once again be in the market for a grad transfer.
On Friday, Johnny Juzang announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal and leave the Wildcat program behind. It’s reasonable to think that move could open up an opportunity for John Calipari to make some late roster additions that he may not have anticipated just a few weeks ago.
Two names that have jumped on the radar are Bryce Aiken and Grant Golden, according to Big Blue Express.
Aiken is a 6-0, 175 pound guard from Harvard University. He averaged nearly 17 points a game last season but poured in over 22 a game the year before. In early November he exploded for 30 points against then-5th ranked Maryland. Aiken appears poised to play high-level Division-I basketball, but any interest in UK will likely depend on the pending decisions of the Cats’ current backcourt. Michigan and a slew of other schools are reported to be in the mix to land Aiken.
Grant Golden would be an addition of a different nature. He is a solid 6-10 big man who plays for the Richmond Spiders. Similar to Aiken, Golden has proven himself to be a high-level scored. He posted 17 points a game his junior season and nearly 14 his senior campaign. Even with UK’s monster class coming in, if there is one question mark, it is the frontcourt depth.
It remains unclear how Kentucky fits into the mix but as NBA draft decisions are made the dominoes will begin to fall.
