Back on April 1, 2019, Bucknell graduate transfer Nate Sestina traveled to Lexington to take his first official visit of the recruiting process.

Just a few days later on April 4, the 6-foot-9 forward announced his commitment to Kentucky in one of the most cut-and-dry recruitments we’ve seen in recent memory, becoming the third graduate transfer (Reid Travis, Julius Mays) of the John Calipari era to become a Wildcat.

Fast forward eleven short months later, and Sestina is gearing up for his final game in Rupp Arena on Tuesday evening for Senior Night.

They say time goes faster than you think, and according to the Kentucky forward, he has lived that since arriving on campus last June.

“It’s just nuts, I was actually talking to my friend about that yesterday,” Sestina told the media after Kentucky’s victory over Auburn on Saturday. “I came here in June, kind of wide-eyed and shooting for the stars. The fact that it’s already March, and I have one more game at Rupp Arena is wild to me. I remember when I first came here on my visit, I was thinking, “Wow, I can’t wait to play here.” And now, I have just one more time doing it. It’s crazy how fast it actually moves. I just need to soak it all in, especially the next couple days. My family is coming in, my mom, dad, and sister are all coming to town. So I’ve got to soak up that time too.”

As crazy as his time in Lexington has been, it’s exactly how he hoped it would be when he signed on the dotted line a little less than a year ago. Between fans showing up outside the Wildcat Coal Lodge, greeting him while he was out to eat, or simply those cheering him on at Rupp Arena each night, he has appreciated every ounce of fan support he has received in his short time at Kentucky.

“I knew it was going to be nuts, 20,000 people in the stands at every home game who are going to come up to you outside the Lodge,” Sestina said after the Auburn win. “When you go out to eat, people are going to come up to you. All that. It’s crazy how much people actually support you, even people you don’t even know. They know everything about you. It’s all love and it’s great. For us, it’s great for us to have that. It’s just great to have that level of support and play in an environment like Rupp Arena.”

This gives us another reason why we recruit so well. When you play for Kentucky you know the fans are behind you 110%!
