From the Cats Pause:
quote:
Reid Travis, this year’s best transfer, is enrolling at Kentucky, a source told 247Sports. Travis announced he was leaving the Stanford program on May 30thand would pursue a graduate transfer season. Shortly after the news broke, Kentucky, according to 247Sports sources emerged as the favorite to land Travis. Travis graduated from Stanford this past weekend. He will be eligible to play for John Calipari this coming season. Travis is expected on Kentucky’s campus this week, per sources. The addition gives Kentucky an immediate presence in the paint. The 6-foot-8, 245-pound power forward had a tremendous redshirt-junior year, averaging 19.6 point and 8.7 rebounds a game. Travis made 250 field goals on the season and made nearly 53-percent of his shot attempts. Travis was third in the Pac-12 in both points and rebounds. It’s been quite the offseason for Kentucky. The Wildcats reeled in five-star high school recruits Ashton Hagans and E.J. Montgomery in early April. Hagans eventually reclassified to 2018. Then on Monday nabbed arguably the best transfer of the offseason. 1 COMMENTS Adding Travis gives Kentucky a boost to their frontcourt, and is particularly good news for Kentucky fans with the losses of Jarred Vanderbilt and Wenyen Gabriel to the NBA Draft. Travis joins Montgomery, and sophomores P.J. Washington and Nick Richards to make up their frontcourt options. quote:
This is quite a pickup for our young cats, will give them some veteran leadership and much more depth along the front line to go along with our stable of top notch guards. [ 06-20-2018, 12:41 PM: Message edited by: SCWC ]

I don't envy Cal's job of picking a starting lineup. Of course it will depend on which guys are meshing as a team come the start of the season. The trip to the Bahamas will help him get a feel of who may be ready to start. With the talent he has on paper I can see another platooning season coming........if everyone shows up with their top game. Holding my breath to see if this all works out.

The young kid that is foregoing his senor year of high school will eventualty start over Green. Green coming back, ensures the young guards will improve much quicker to compete against him.
Reid will push the big men on the roster to improve. It will help Richards by a bunch, having a brute pushing him around in practice. Of Course Reid starts, but Richards should make a huge jump

I wouldn't be surprised if we won't need traffic signs at the scorers table with all the talented starters and reserves going in and out.

Cal did not like platooning and said he would not do it again. He prefers an 8 or 9 man rotation as do most basketball coaches.

In two games against the Arizona Wildcats this past season and top NBA Draft pick DeAndre Ayton, Travis averaged 21.5 points and 10 rebounds per game. His highest scoring output came in a 33 point game against Washington.
Travis now joins PJ Washington, Nick Richards, EJ Montgomery and Keldon Johnson (depending on where John Calipari plays Johnson) in a loaded frontcourt. There’s a lot of talent and a lot of five-stars in that group, but with Travis’ production and veteran presence, he just might be the best college player in that group.
