Prior to 2013, only two players from the Lone Star State had ever donned the blue and white for the Wildcats, Bob Burrow from 1954-56 and Jeff Brassow from 1989-94.
When Garland's Tyrese Maxey announced his college decision Wednesday, it marked the seventh Texan to commit to John Calipari since 2012, joining Aaron and Andrew Harrison (Houston), Julius Randle (Dallas), De'Aaron Fox (Houston), Jarred Vanderbilt (Houston) and PJ Washington (Frisco).
Not only are the seven Texas commitments the most of any state or country during the Calipari Era, the Wildcats have secured more top-50 commitments than the homestate Longhorns (5) and as many as Texas A&M (3), Kansas (2) and Oklahoma (2) combined.
Kentucky has developed strong ties to the Houston Hoops travel program specifically. Maxey's commitment marks the third straight year a Houston Hoops player has chosen the Wildcats. Fox and Vanderbilt also played their AAU basketball with Houston Hoops.
