On Tuesday, many days after Kentucky conducted an internal review to clear leading scorer Kevin Knox of alleged NCAA violations, Calipari once again was asked how to best deal with sports agents' attempts to recruit talented players.
The Kentucky basketball coach held firm in his long-standing opinions.
Calipari contends high school and college players with professional potential should be eligible for loans through the National Basketball Players Association, the labor union that represents basketball players in the NBA.
"Let them take a loan. Let their family get a loan from the Players Association," Calipari said. "What's the problem? For travel and NCAA Tournaments and everything, why?"
A potential counter to this idea is that some players will get the loans and others will not. There are 351 Division I college basketball teams, the majority of which do not routinely have players who leave school early for the professional ranks.

I don't like that idea at all. You have a few who would be entitled to "loans" while the vast majority would not. You might as well say agents or whoever just give the best players cash. That appears to go on today and that's just a way to make it legal IMO.

I too felt this was rather off the wall and not do able. The NBA players association is why they can't go directly from high school to the NBA now, they would only makes things worse. [ 02-28-2018, 04:12 PM: Message edited by: SCWC ]

What I don't get is why these kids need so much money so quick. I had jack squat when I put myself through college. They make it sound like these kids and their families are homeless and starving. I just don't get it.
A loan is not the way to go either - what if the kid doesn't pan out and can't repay the loan? Then what? The NBA owners are not going to be giving out loans any time soon.

I agree, these kids are living a dream and are going to college for free. I too had zero funds when I attended college. I had 2 student loans and had a part time job and worked out well. Really don't want to get into this but teenagers now days are flat out spoiled.

Some dont have much - Eric Bleso (sic) and his mother lived in a car for a time while he was in high school.
Only select few would get loans as the NBA not stupid to give to kids who r not NBA prospects!
