When you pay a head coach millions to coach kids then there is bound to be corruption! and when good but poor kids who only have a mom to raise them then they are so easy to take money from agents! Happens all the time imo
BUT
the issues in my view is the punishment for each school - it is not equal.
DUKE for example - Battier took money when he was in high school and it came out when he was playing his freshman year. Nothing happened to DUKE
One of DUKE's players SOLD over 70K of jewelry to a parn broker in New York ..Nothing happened to DUKE
Newton accepted 100k when Cam was in high school - NCAA said not Cams fault and nothing happend to Auburn.
Shelpy (sic) accepted money in High School - he sat out 9 games at Kansas. Nothing happened to school
Kanter his father accepted money on his behalf and he is banned for life at KY.
WV Turkish player also received money from a pro team and yet he sat out a few games and then played for WV.
NC - biggest academia fraud in history of schools for manny many years. Nothing happened
these are just from the top of my brainless head I am sure there are many more...
What do u want to bet that we vacant last year because of BAM's mother accepting money??
p.s. do you really think that a head coach does not know what his asst coaches are doing? [ 02-24-2018, 10:02 AM: Message edited by: ukcatfannfl ]

Ed,the Duke player was Corey Magette, not Battier if memory serves me correctly. Duke should have had to forfeit the national championship they won with him on their roster as a freshman. Duke and UNC are sacred cows when it comes to the NCAA, they write and live by their own rules, and their attitude is, the hell with the NCAA pretty much.

Didn't the Magette thing happen before he enrolled at Duke so the NCAA could not take away games or titles? If so, same would apply to Bam I would think.

Yes, Magette got his payment prior to enrolling at Duke and was therefore ineligible to play for them but the NCAA did not strip them of the NCAA tournament or any of the games. Similiar situation to Bam but we are UK and they are DUKE so there could be a double standard.

In every other case it didn't matter, see Fab Fab. Chris Weber and company were all paid by the same Ed Piggy Martin that Maggette was paid by. Michigan had to take down banners and Duke didn't.
Also look at Memphis, Rose took the ACT prior to entering Memphis. NCAA CLEARED him to play and then ruled him ineligible after the season.

Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

On UNC, what they technically did the NCAA has no jurisdiction over and the school and their lawyers knew that with 100% fact. The NCAA only governs over Athletics and not the Academic Program Requirements for a degree that a school may have to gain a degree (i.e. getting a Business Degree from Ball State is much different than getting a Business Degree from Harvard).
So the University of North Carolina, intentionally set up the requirements to be lax to get the African American Studies degree and opens it to all students. No attendance requirements, no test requirements, and really no grading requirements to get the degree. Many regular "students" basically knew all they had to do was pay tuition and they could get a coveted UNC degree to help them get placed in the work place without doing anything.
