...if only they would listen to Cal!
When they play as he likes -- aggressive on offense, taking it to the rim instead of settling for jumpers, making the extra passes to force the defense to react... they score easily and often in bunches.
But instead, we see long droughts, poor execution, and terrible shot selection.
When they play defense as he likes -- with energy, hands in the air, always moving to stay in front of the ball handler, talking, great help defense... we can stifle our opponents.
Instead, we see the other team getting good looks, easy drives to the rim, and shooting the lights out.
When we play as Cal wants ... with energy, toughness, focus, and grit, we get the 50-50 balls, we outrebound our opponents, establish position on the block, and we wear them down as the game progresses.
Instead, we see soft play, some players taking it too easy, and we get out-hustled, physically pushed around, and intimidated.
This team has the tools to be amazing. But they are marching to a different drummer, and not buying into Cal's teaching. I hope that changes soon.

so true max of 2 guys who work hard when any 5 on the floor. they play like that rest of the year and they could have up to 9 more losses and even a bid is in play!
unless cal can recruit the 1 or 2 superstars who can carry the rest of the 5 stars theRe is no way young inexperienced players can be prepared for the 1 yr of college basketball! [ 01-08-2018, 06:32 PM: Message edited by: ukcatfannfl ]

Ed, you nailed it, this years "class" of Cal's recruits is just not as talented as most if not all of Cal's past season teams. That doesn't mean Cal can't get them playing as a team and end up going a long ways in the NCAA tournament. It will be a challenge but we can't sell Call short on his coaching ability.
