They proved they can do it. They played great d the last 4 minutes. That's what makes it so frustrating. They just have to decide that They want to play defense, and make it a priority. If they get that mind set it will be a good year, if they don't it will easily be a 10+ loss year.

I would love to see less Washington as he is by far our worst defender. Hands down, doesn't hustle back, no help side, lazy. He could probably be a good defender, but right now he is awful.

UCLA were playing clock the last four minutes, that is what made the defense look effective. This is a very weak defensive team. I agree on Washington, he has done very little for us as a team thus far this season. Gabriel should be playing ahead of him. Washington did help win one game with a double double but since then he has been pretty much a no show.

Second chance points by UCLA cost us the game today, they had 20 second chance points to our 10.

I dont understand why Cal doesnt play Gabriel more. He has his flaws, but I think if he played 25 minutes every game he could be a 12 point 8 rebound a night guy, maybe more. He isn't great on defense either, but I think he can be better than Washington. Just my thoughts.

Jones is not helping at all. Wynyard didn't even dress in uniform for the game. Those two are going to be wasted scholarships as it looks now. Knox is either on or off, no in between. Maybe no one will leave after this year.

UCLA just hit their open shots, guys. They worked the ball to get good, easy looks, while we rarely took an easy shot at all. THAT is the difference.

Our defense could get better, no doubt, and I think it will -- a lot better. But I count this as just good offensive execution on UCLA's part more than bad "D" on ours. The "D" is about where I would expect to be at this point. So is the offense. We just can't play talented, veteran teams and hope to beat them at this point of the season.

What sad is we were leaving guys wide open even when we were trying to play a zone defense! How do you do that?

We definitely have work to do but you can bet Cal knows it and will address the problems. This is a team that has a ways to go to meet their full potential. We have to give Cal a little more time and we should start seeing improvement in our play.
