I live a couple of miles from Monmouth University and follow them. This is a pretty good team and hopefully our guys will not take them lightly. Monmouth just took UConn to OT in Hartford, CT. They will have a lot of fans at MSG (about 1 hour from the university) and other attendees at MSG will most likely be pulling for the upset.

This game truly scares me. It is our second game out of Rupp and will probably be the first that will seem like a true road game to this young team. I expect to see a barn burner of a game and just hope that our team is up to the task of taking on an opponent of this caliber on the road.

We face that every game, they all give 110% when they play our Cats. We are fortunate however as our talent level is awfully tough to beat.

If we are worried about beating Monmouth, then it's going to be a long season.

rlt4uk, after looking at their schedule etc, I agree, if we lose to them we are in for a long season. I knew nothing about them other than that they had played Uconn to an overtime game but I recall seeing UConn lose to some team last week and was not at all impressed with them. We should have no trouble with Monmouth. They have a 3 win 5 loss record.

There it is.....a big blue fan just stated what most of us are thinking.

When Billy Clyde lost to a no name, the fan base woke up and realized the wrong person was driving the bus.

I'm just tired of the one and done. I want players who are going to be around two or three years, a Patrick Patterson type that at least we know when the season starts. It's hard to get excited when we can have something to look to. I'm for the players sure but I bleed Blue and it should be the university first, they are the one's paying coach cals salary.

In a perfect world for the fans of college basketball, the best talent would go to a school for four years, hold off making millions of dollars in the prime of their life, and then go out and make their fortune.

In a perfect world for the best athletes, there would be no restrictions regarding age or length of play in college and they could jump back into college if they weren't drafted high enough.

I don't begrudge anyone that goes out and makes a living, especially in pro sports for a fat contract. Health, performance, and age hangs over their head. A career ending injury could happen at any time. Their skill set may not translate to whatever team they land on or they may not be able to beat out the talent on that team. Then, when the next contract rolls around, they may get offered peanuts or not get signed at all. The last factor is age. There is only so many years a player has to make money. When a player gets in their 30s, if there is a younger player in the market and they are close in talent, the younger guy usually gets the nod, because they figure he will be more durable.

Who are the rare talented players that are one notch below the best, straight to the NBA talent, and can improve to be NBA talent if they stay in college two or three years? That is a large grey area and if you miss the mark, you have a team made up of Tubby recruits who are a good tough team, year in and year out, but aren't a threat to go to the Final Four.

I would rather have the best of the best. Cal doesn't take every kid. The one kid who plays for Oklahoma, I think, is a ball hog a wanted to shoot it 30 to 40 times a game, like Iverson. If he had come to Kentucky, the rest of the talent would be pissed off, because they wouldn't get to eat.

I remember the Joe Hall days and the Eddie Sutton era. Kenny Sky Walker was my favorite, followed by Rex Chapman. Would have loved to see those types of guys playing for Cal. Rajon Rondo would have been a special player under Calipari.

Sacha looks like he is going to have a very solid year for the Cats, this season. I remember fans thinking Cal made a mistake recruiting him and thought he would transfer or that he should leave.
He looks a lot more natural and fluid than Gabriel. Both of those guys are multiple year players. What this team lacks is a 2nd or 3rd year guard that is one notch below one and done. They will have that next season, because I will be surprised if these guards are gone. But, you never know.

ritruk how funny u should mention Gardener Webb because my h.s. b-ball team played Weeki Wachie last night and guess who is the head coach there>
Rick Scruggs who was the Gardener Webb coach when they beat us in Rupp. He told me a cpl things that might be interesting to u guys.

Bill G. of course was our coach and he refused to shake hands after the game and was extremely rude.

And each team was supposed to use Rupp for an hr the day of the game and he and his team had to wait in the hall because Billy was still using it over his time and the part Coach Scruggs liked Billy was running his team up and down the stairs in Rupp.. Coach said they were happy to let him wear his team down to include the kid with the bad leg (I cant remember his name).

Just reaffirms how bad a Billy was.

Coach Scruggs retired here in florida and just having a little fun coaching without pressure!!

Billie Gillispie is the only basketball coach ever hired at UK that was not hired through a search committee. Mitch Barnhart hired him on his own, after having to fire him, Barnhart put Mike Pratt in charge of the committee that brought Cal to us at UK, thank goodness. What added real hurt to getting rid of Gillispie was the 4 million dollars we had to pay him to go away which I read somewhere after about two years, he had squandered it all in some get rich scheme.

The one with the bad leg was Derek Jasper from Paso Robles, CA. Funny thing is that he went on to rejoin billy for at least a year after he left here. I think as a coach. I met his mother in CA when I went to his house while visiting my son there. Nice lady that worked at the high school where he went. She got me a couple free tickets to one of UK's games.

Wearing out your players legs before a game is a very dumb thing to do. As for the 4 million, I thought UK pared that number down. Maybe not.

Just looked it up. UK paid $2.98 million, plus spent another $265,000 for mediation. $2.98 Mil is all BCG got.

Wow. Screw ups can sometimes get the golden parachute. I sure hope Pitino not only loses his suit against UL, but that the Cards counter sue and get damages from him.

Corporate CEOs get huge payoffs when they get pushed out and a lot less people know who they are.

I read a comment from that former sports chick on 18, she said we should be thankful for the Billy Clyde years because it forced the AD to hire Calipari. If his back wasn't up against the wall, he wouldn't have hired him, in her opinion.

She may be right. I wanted Cal, all along, and he hired Clyde.

I was excited about the Stoops hire, but now am bummed out about the automatic extensions that he has in the contract. 7 wins get an auto extension. That means the fan base has to settle for a 7 win bar.

Norm, I know at the time they said he got 4 million, I never bothered to look it up. 3 million was much to much for Gillispie.
