•Hot-shooting guard Jemarl Baker sat out of the festivities tonight. He’s been banged up and has missed some time, though he should be back practicing soon. Nothing to worry about I wouldn’t think, but let’s hope his knee isn’t a lingering concern once the season starts. Jarred Vanderbilt is also not participating, but that should go without saying. He’s rocking a boot.

•They started off with the 3/4 court sprint. There isn’t much to write about here, as they mostly just showed random camera cuts over Seth Greenberg’s voice. I will say that I love the way Wenyen looks when he runs. His long gangly strides resemble that of a baby doe. How’s that for Pro Day analysis?

•No one actually knows for sure how good Hamidou Diallo will be at basketball this season (probably quite good). There is no doubt, however, that he’d be in the Shuttle Run Hall of Fame if there was such a thing.

• Nick Richards is athletic. The kid is huge and can jump out of the gym. I would bet he has a couple of insane posterizing dunks this season. To no one’s surprise, Diallo’s vertical seems just as ridiculous as it was during the NBA combine.

• Quade Green knocked down just about every jump shot to start individual workouts that ESPN cared to show. For someone who shot about 40% from three in final high school and AAU seasons, he doesn’t get much credit for being a “shooter.” By the end of individual drills his shot started winding up a little short.

•Coach Cal is already warning us about the potential slow growth of this young team. He mentions the 2014 team who didn’t put it all together until March but still made the national championship game. I think the BBN would be fine with them taking their lumps early on if it meant similar success down the line.

•When it comes to just lofting baby hooks while walk-ons push big cushiony pads into your back, Tai Wynyard seems to have the softest touch as opposed to the more highly touted big men on the roster.

•Speaking of Green, his counterpart at the point guard position has stood out in terms of making shots. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has looked as good as anyone not named Brad regarding his shooting stroke. His wind up is a little slow, but it fits with the rhythmic and in-control style of his game.

•As a whole however, shots just aren’t really falling. Pro Day will not quell the chief concern Kentucky fans have of this team; not by a long shot. Washington in particular struggled mightily with the five-minute shooting drill.

The way they showed that work out actually showed us as fans very little about the potential of this team. I personally felt that 2 hour broadcast was a waste of tv time myself. The split screen etc made it very hard to follow anyone or anything that was going on. An extremely poor tv production of a basketball event.

Pro day is for the players and also a recruiting tool. Cal was the first to do it. The fact that they aired it on tv, which I didn't know and wouldn't watch it anyway, is a testament to the popularity of Kentucky.

Another one is Big Blue madness (used to be called midnight madness), a fluff tool for recruiting. Fans have to sit through the girls deal, to get to the main course. Be honest, if they held it for the women only, they wouldn't get much of a showing.

I don't get the camping thing. I think it is retarded. I wouldn't do it for a chance to get To Petty tickets, if he came back from the dead.

Bottom Line: If it helps recruiting, why not!

Boomdaddy, all I was saying that as a fan, it was a waste of two hours of time. No doubt is has great value to UK basketball, just not a fan event the way it is conducted. I realize it is for pro scouts which takes away a lot of the fan value of it because of the various drills they run etc. Fans want to see basketball, not drills. No doubt, it is a great recruiting tool and I am happy to see them have it, was just saying that as a basketball fan it was pretty much a waste of two hours of my time but I am all things UK basketball and watched it even though it had very little entertainment value to me as a huge fan.

I feel the same way about madness.....huge waste of my time.....like seeing the globe trotters play....no defense...and just showmanship...when I was a student at UK, I felt different about it.....I thought it was the place to be.
