Four-star shooting guard Jemarl Baker committed to Kentucky earlier this month and has already signed with the Wildcats, but he’s getting his first look at his future home this week.
Baker — a 6-foot-4 prospect from the Los Angeles area — earned a scholarship offer from UK shortly after the end of the Cats’ season, and it didn’t take long for Kentucky to land his commitment. He averaged 17.1 points, 4.1 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals as a senior in high school this past season, making 94 three-pointers.
The Herald-Leader has been told that UK is currently hosting Baker for his official visit, which started Sunday and will go through Tuesday. He was an important addition to UK’s 2017 class even before Sunday’s news that shooting guard Hamidou Diallo will test the NBA Draft waters this year. Baker is a proven three-point threat and will be the top shooter in the Cats’ incoming class.
“Jemarl brings shooting to the table,” Scout.com national analyst Evan Daniels told the Herald-Leader. “I think that was what Kentucky’s recruiting class was missing. He’s a really good shooter off the catch, and he has good range and a quick release. He’s exactly what Kentucky needed.”
