Topic: Diallo declares for NBA draft, no agent

Diallo has now declared for the NBA draft without hiring an agent. If he does leave, that will be one wasted scholorship and one that may have cost us getting a strong two guard for next season. I was afraid this might happen.

yes if he does go pro----i feel he used kentucky---this should never happen

The way I read the story is that he is doing it to be judged by the scouts, so they can tell him what he needs to work on.
I am not saying he is staying, for sure. But, that is how I interpreted the article that I read.
The scouts may tell him he is the best thing since sliced bread and that he is certain to be a lock for a 1st rounder, who knows?
I do think the one year of college or 19 years of age rule was to protect the franchises who are spending the money on those picks and keeping them from risking a pick on a kid who hasn't played against other top players in competitive games.
Would a pro team take chance in the first round on him, not getting to see him play at a higher level than high school, when there are plenty of one year college guys to choose from?

AAU ball is what the nba counts on not h.s... The NBA has all the scoop needed from the circuit to make decisions based on skill set and potential.
If he is told he would be an mid 1st rounder I am sure he would go. But right now it looks like at best late 1st rounder and probably a 2nd rounder.
Smart move on his part to get evaluated now!

Smart move on getting evaluated.
Smart move on Cal supporting him. This only helps our recruiting in the future. We can't hold these type of kids back, its only going to prevent us from getting the next John Wall, Anthony Davis or Karly Anthony Towns.
We as UK fans need to understand this and support it. I understand thats hard to do given the circumstances that he hasn't played a single minute for us. However, it is still not a wasted scholarship. This is just part of the one and done era that is hard to get used to for some.

Just another reason to despise the NBA. Let these kids go straight to the draft out of high school and quit using college sports and American tax dollars supporting these kids for one year when they really don't care to be in college. The NBA really, really needs to push the development league as a means of replacing the one year of college ball.

I agree PaulCat. Im never a fan of the one and dones and never will. Just a waste. I personally think it should be like Football and you have to have 3 years before you can go pro, or make it where they go right out of high School. I think it is bad for the game. I understand the argument on the other side I really do. I just don't agree with it.

I could not agree more Paul! However, its an NBA rule and no one is better at exploiting it than Cal. On the other hand, if Cal had the opportunity to keep his guys for 2-3 years we would be unstoppable.

I think they are afraid of Cal owning college basketball championships. He would be as good as Wooden as far as racking up the crowns.

Totally agree PaulCat. It also seem like regardless if our players are ready enough, Cal pushes them out the door. It somewhat cheats us fans out whereas we have to rebuild every year.

What is incredibly odd about this is it is the Players Union that is standing in the way of raising the age limit, i.e. to essentially 2 years. The NBA has been wanting to raise it to 2 years for quite some time but the Players Union will not agree. The reason I find that odd is because you would think the Players Union would want to protect its more veteran players. Instead, every time a young buck comes into the league, especially as a first rounder, a more veteran player normally loses a roster spot. Players like Brandon Knight stand to lose a lot because he has a fairly high salary and is becoming a backup\role player. For that role he is expensive and can be more cheaply replaced by a one and done.

Very good assessment! Never looked at it that way but a solid point none the less. If we had our recruits for 2 years! Watch out!
