After discussing his new book – “Success Is the Only Option: The Art of Coaching Extreme Talent” – Calipari was told that assistant coach Kenny Payne had not yet read it. And off Calipari went:
“He went to Louisville,” he said. “He doesn’t read.”
There was a round of shocked laughter in the room full of reporters, then a long pause, before a grinning Calipari continued.
“I was kidding,” he said.
Payne played for the rival Cardinals from 1985-89 but has been on Calipari’s staff at Kentucky since 2010.
