Fox in workouts and pickup games is his floor-general attitude that's been Ulis-like at times. I don't think there's any question Ulis will go down as the best general and leader at point guard during the Cal years at UK.

But Fox may end up right behind him, so there shouldn't be a significant dropoff between Ulis and Fox in that regard. After that, the comparisons stop as Fox is simply a different kind of superstar who's going to dominate games with his speed, rim attacking and length on defense. All of this continues to be on display in workouts, as he's poised to become one of the best guards Calipari ever coached.

Speaking of leadership, Isaiah Briscoe has really taken on the role of the leader of this young Wildcat squad. Briscoe is the only returning player who's shown he can make a big impact on both ends of the court, not to mention someone with first-round NBA talent once he finds his offensive rhythm.

"I think right now, Isaiah Briscoe’s done a really, really good job of leading this group," Robic said Monday. "They’ve been doing a lot of early morning workouts. You can see that, with a year under his belt, that he’s really shown a leadership role," Robic said.

There is no way I personally would rate Ulis ahead of John Wall, Eric Bledsoe or Brandon Knight, three outstanding point guards who have played for us since Cal arrived at UK. This writer considers Ulis the best, I totally disagree.

Ullis was better at running a team than those three, in my opinion. Those other three were bette athletes, and stronger guards, but he ran the team like no other. Wall would be my #2 floor general. Of course, we didn't get to see those guys as sophomores

Those guys went in the first round, their freshman year. I don't buy that ULis is better, either. He is a great college player, but I wouldn't pick him ahead of the other guards that went in the fist round.

Place in the draft tells most of the story. Ulis did slip to the second round but he got the salary of a first rounder. Just looking at what Wall and Rondo have done in the NBA tells you how good they are. Love Ulis but looking at everything he wouldn't be my top guard out of UK.

If, a BIG if, Ulis had been 6 inches taller, he may have been the best point guard in basketball anywhere, ever. Even so, he has been one of my favorites in the last 40 years.

Rondo already has over 5600 NBA assists and nary a Cat even close to that and he has a few more years to play. Dampier is about a 1000 assists behind Rondo.
