No doubt about it this years team is another team that has the players to go all the way.
The Kentucky Wildcats are the nation’s No. 1 team going into the upcoming college basketball season, according to the annual preview magazine from Athlon Sports.
Senior forward Alex Poythress and sophomore point guard Tyler Ulis are on the regional magazine cover, and this season’s team will also feature arguably the No. 1 recruiting class in the country.
Kentucky is followed in the Athlon preseason rankings by Duke, North Carolina, Maryland and Virginia. Rounding out the top 10 are Kansas, Iowa State, Arizona, Oklahoma and Villanova.
Vanderbilt (15th) and Texas A&M (25th) are the only other Southeastern Conference schools in the Top 25. Louisville is ranked No. 23.

I don't think Athlon gets it very close most of the time and I can't agree with all their rankings this year either. They may be ranking us a little high for this early but we'll wait and see.

I think a lot will depends on the physical condition of Poythress and if Murray is as talented as we all think he is. Not only does our players have to be spot on they have to get some breaks and the coaching has to be spot on too if we expect to win it all.
Our past has shown how hard it is to win it all as we had one of the most talented team we have ever had last season and lost. The Cousins, Wall, Bledsoe team was a phenomenal team also and they got beat by a team we should have beat by 20 points. On the good side the 2012 team won pretty much in a breeze and hopefully this years team can do that same thing.

Murray is the real deal. His performance in the PanAm games was amazing. He has mastered 'letting the game come to him'.
Poythress is going to be the key. If he can return to the explosive, energetic player he was, and can draw out the defense with a reliable outside shot (he shot 40+ from the arc as a freshman!), then I can see the dribble-drive working like a machine this year. Ullis, Murray, and Briscoe can all score and drive. Poythress can score and drive. Skal will have a field day on lobs and put-backs. And those five will play hellacious defense.
Hmmmm... I think I am salivating.
