I think he is correct. Cal became too inward-focused, treating Kentucky as if it alone mattered. But our opponents did their due diligence, and Notre Dame almost pulled off the upset, and Wisconsin DID.
Yes, Kentucky must execute effectively on offense to win. But we also must be wary of our opponents, understand them, and be better prepared to stop them defensively. Cal seems to put in an offense and a defense -- both very, very good -- and then says "Go do what you do better than they do". Well, that will work up to a point. But when you reach the elite eight or higher, those guys are also executing top-notch offensive and defensive schemes. We need to tailor our offense to take advantage of their weaknesses, and tailor our defense to stop their strengths. Cal failed to do that.
I hope he did learn something powerful from this year. We need him to stick around for a decade or so and bring home numbers 9, 10, 11, and 12.
