That is a surprise and a loss as the series was a long and historic game for many years.
Kentucky will be playing UCLA Dec. 20 in Chicago, but the Cats will also play the Bruins the next two seasons as well.
Kentucky coach John Calipari confirmed the home-and-home series Friday and explained why UK has a spot on the schedule for the game.
“Well, first of all, we’re playing North Carolina (in 2015) in the (CBS Sports Classic) tournament in (Brooklyn). This year we’re playing UCLA, next year we’ll play (Ohio State, then UNC in ’16). They (Tar Heels) wanted to take two years off because of that. We couldn’t take one year off, because it screws up our schedule,” Calipari said.
“And you won’t believe this: This is all based on what we need. Don’t care about anybody else. You don’t want to play us, listen, don’t play us. So they take off two years; we’ll plug in UCLA for two years. North Carolina has already sent us a contract for after those two years are over. So this is plugging that hole right now.
“And it’s funny because people are saying our schedule, as a top-five team our schedule (isn’t good). What? I mean, I don’t know if it’s the guy’s hope or he really believes, when you’re playing Texas and you’re playing all these teams we’re playing, that the schedule is (weak). We have as good a schedule as anybody in the country, and we always have a brand new team. And it’s fine. That’s what we do. That’s how we do it here.”

We have played North Carolina 36 times and have beat them 13 times. I hate to see that as they are one of the very few teams that have winning record against us and now we have little chance to even the score.

But they cheated getting some of those wins. How many? We will never know!

It is my understanding that the series will return and that it is already in the works. The home and home series with UCLA is a stop gap to have games until the series returns. They said that in the press.

You are correct. We play UCLA in Chicago this year as well as UNC. Next year we go to UCLA and they come to UK in 2016. In 2017 we start with UNC again. [ 11-30-2014, 05:43 PM: Message edited by: Bama Cat ]
