Caleb also spoke about Calipari’s recruiting pitch after today’s game. According to Swanigan, Coach Cal has told him that he has no plans to use the platoon system next year at Kentucky. Is this simply a recruiting tactic or a real indication of Calipari’s plans? Without knowing how the roster will look next year, it’s difficult to draw any conclusions.

You really have to have 10 really good players to be able to platoon. I don't think there ever has been 10 players with talent we have this year on one team. It takes that to do it and can't say it will never be done again but it's safe to say it won't happen very often. It certainly won't happen next year unless a "whole lot" of this years team stays for another year.

I think the platooning would hurt recruiting of impact players for next season. Most of Cal's recruits are expecting to be one and done and it will be a rare event that any team would have 9 Mickey D players plus a Willie Cauley Stein on their roster. I doubt we will ever see it again at UK.

I PERSONALLY THINK THE PLATOON SYSTEM WILL GO BY THE WAYSIDE AFTER ABOUT 12 OR 13 GAMES THIS YEAR.

I'd say Coach doesn't expect to have that many of his players stay next year from this years squad.

Green Bean, I figured the platooning would go with the Kansas game but Kansas turned out to be a nothing type of game. I too think the platooning will be gone by conference time.

I don't see many teams being able to give Kentucky much of a challenge. So what if the score is close, tied, or a few points down at the half. The second half will belong to the Cats.

The platoon system is genius. I believe he will use the whole season and through the tourney. He will have the luxury of having that many guys who are playing like they are on a pro team, go all out and produce. He actually has 12 quality players that he can use. If there is foul trouble or an injury or two, he just plugs in the holes.

It seems to me that there may be a few fans that think it is a bad thing. Calipari is the only one doing it,. because he is the only one with such a loaded roster.

If a bunch of the talent stays for another year, Cal may do another version of the platoon. The 11the and 12th men on the roster are not chumps, either. They could fill in on the second squad, next season.

With the amount of talent he's got he has to platoon them. I'm with you I think it's genius

It takes a special coach and special players to run the platoon system and this years team is perfect for the system.

I see only advantages to the platoon system. What is not to like? Having a genuine 12-deep roster practically requires the use of a platoon system, or at least liberal substitutions.

It really is genius. And, like Boom, I think we will see it all season long, albeit not necessarily in its pure form. I can see a few players emerging with more than 20 minutes on average, as they stay on the court while 3 or 4 players 'rotate in' instead of 5. But, for the most part, the kids have bought into they idea, and are giving their all. Once that happens, there is no downside to this that I can see.

Will he use it again? Well, if the experiment ulitmately fails, then probably not. But if it succeeds, and he again gets 10-12 top-flight players at once, then yes. Why not?

I agree it takes special players to make the platoon system work (10 of them as a matter of fact) but IMO it takes away a lot of coaching from the game. As a fan, I don't like the platoon system and I don't think I ever will. I have all the faith in the world in coach Cal's coaching ability and with this team it is probably the best for the time being.

I don't think he will stay with it the entire year and after this season I believe it will be a thing of the past.

The genius part comes with the ability to recruit 10 players with this ability.
