Dakari rolls with the flow and is getting better by the game. He is going to have another good season no matter how many minutes he gets.
Dakari Johnson doesn’t mind sharing his minutes. He’s just happy to be on the court.
The University of Kentucky sophomore center doesn’t see a big problem with coach John Calipari’s two-platoon system, designed to divide his team half and allot an ample amount of playing time.
“It’s not confusing at all, just knowing that you’re going to come out with four other guys that are going to have the same competitive spirit, know how to play and just as talented as you (are),” he said. “We’ve got a lot of competitive guys on the team that don’t like to lose, so when you put us all on the court, we like to compete against each other. It’s going to be great.”
Johnson played 38 minutes in the team’s intra-squad scrimmage earlier this week at Rupp Arena. Johnson, who dropped several pounds during the off-season, scored 13 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Johnson enjoyed the experience of playing in front of the home crowd for the first time in nine months.
“It’s pretty fun, and it’s different atmosphere,” Johnson said. “When we’ve been playing practice, but just coming out here and playing in front of the fans and showing the fans what we’re trying to do. We treated it like a practice and scrimmage against each other.”
