Playing Tennessee once a year isn't enough and breaking that rivalry to once a year is going to be missed.

I really don't care if UK plays UT or not. UT really doesn't matter to me. The UL game matters to me. The UF games matters, because I don't like Eddie Munster. I would like to see a home and home series with kansas. I look forward to the UNC game every year.
I have been disappointed in the SEC as far as basketball, for a long time. I am hoping Bruce Pearl gives them another team that is competitive. [ 09-08-2014, 06:44 AM: Message edited by: boomdaddy ]

catmando,
Yes, I feel like you do, but that is because I grew up in Bell Country right on the Tennessee line with a direct highway to Knoxville. I married a Tennessee girl whose whole family are UT fans. So, where I grew up, Tennessee was a huge rivalry. It is a cultural thing.

Ga Cat, Kentucky and Tennessee have played 216 times since their first meeting in 1910 ( that's over 100 years). Kentucky and Tennessee have been playing basketball against each other 2 times a year since the beginning of the SEC. To me that's tradition and it's longest-running basketball rivalry that Kentucky has and it isn't even close. [ 09-08-2014, 11:58 AM: Message edited by: catmandoo ]

Here is what I found on the reasoning for the change. I still don't understand it but so be it.
SEC basketball coaches on Wednesday recommended that the league stop using its two-division system and go with one 12-team alignment as soon as the 2011-12 season.
The SEC has used two six-team divisions (East, West) since adding Arkansas and South Carolina to the conference in 1991.
"I’m pleased that we’ve come to this conclusion," SEC commissioner Mike Slive told reporters. "I think it’s better for SEC basketball."
Kentucky coach John Calipari said the move to scrap the two-division set up would enhance the SEC's ability to attract at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament. Last season, five teams from the SEC East reached the NCAA Tournament, and none from the SEC West.

The game means much more to UT than it does to UK. I like Florida as our one home and home series yearly but do not see any other SEC team right now that is that big an attraction for us. Hopefully as the conference improves, that will change.
