If Andrew can not play or does but not playing well this is I hope who we play. It would be a big line-up, one we could take advantage of down low and open it up for Young and Aaron to shoot some open 3's.

Aaron PG
Young SG
Poythress SF
Randle PF
WCS Center

JMO, I think that lineup would get ate alive at both ends of the floor. All though, I'm not sure that plugging Andrew in makes all that much of a difference. I just think WSU is a terrible match-up for the Cats.

Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

Yeah, but every WSU player is more skilled than their UK counterpart IMO plus Tekele Cotton might only be 6'3" but with his length and tenacity plays at about 6'6" to 6'7" and he is the best on ball defender in College Basketball. He is not quite up to Cliff Hawkins level, but he is the closest thing that I have seen to Cliff Hawkins on the defensive end. Baker and Early are also long, quick, and shoot it extremely well.

UK's size will help them rebounding, just like it has all year, but other than Randle, UK doesn't have size that can score off offensive post moves and Randle is even limited in that regard because he goes to the spin move 80% of the time and teams sit on it. So there is really zero offensive advantage that UK has from the height and WSU is a jump shooting and transition offense type of team so UK's height on defense is negated IMO, because WSU is not going to drive the ball into traffic.

UK's best hope is that WSU shoots about 25% from the perimeter today IMO.

I think a good perimeter shooting team would have a great chance of beating us. If KS was hitting a good percentage of 3s they probably would have won. They were good at getting open but, lucky for us, they weren't hitting them. Today will be a real test of our defensive skill team wide.

Trey, With 3 of there players 6'2" or shorter and no one bigger than 6'8 we do have a size advantage and would think Cal would be able to put a pretty game plan together to take advantage of our size and skills. It's sad to think they would be taking advantages of our talented recruits we brought in but to your point they just might do it from what we have seen so far this season. It wasn't to long ago you were touting this team pretty highly so I'm a bit taken back about your thoughts about todays game but certainly agree and unless we play above what we have seen this game is not a sure thing by any means. We will need to step it up a notch to get the win even with our supper freshman and superior size.

Unfortunately for me I just don't have the confidence that we will really have a game plan. Just haven't seen it. It is always let's hope my 5 is better than your 5. Never really see any game plan. Hope today is different as it will take a game plan to win this one. I don't think we can just win on supposed talent.

cmd,

The problem lies within the last word of that sentence. Other than Randle, who basically has one move 80% of the time, UK does not have "offensively skilled" big men. Dakari has gotten better, but I would not consider him skilled YET, WCS is an athletic freak, but does not have any offensive moves in the post: Simply lobs and putbacks. His presence is on the defensive end, but like I said WSU is more of a jump shooting team and will not challenge him the majority of possessions. Alex is another guy who does not have a drop step, a turnaround 5 foot jumper, etc. Simply a guy who can fill the break in transition and a spot up mediocre shooter.

UK's most skilled players are on the perimeter and that is where WSU has the advantage. That is why this is a bad match-up IMO. UK has to get outstanding and almost perfect play from both Harrisons and Young to win this game and with Van Fleet/Baker/Cotton guarding them and vice versa. Well, let's just say I don't think they can play "perfect" on offense or defense.

Trey You left out WCS who is great rim protector and rebounder and if he goes to the pro's is a sure first round pick and a outside shot as a lottery pick. Granted he isn't a scorer as yet but would expect him to have a good game today especially if he gets some freedom around the basket and that will only come if our guards and Young make their presence know and make some shots.

You mention we have our most skilled players on the perimeter. I find it hard to believe you can call anyone skilled on our perimeter as we don't have even have one guard close to shooting 40% on threes. It gives defense's a big advantage to back off our guards and make them drive. That is a huge advantage and it shows in our guard shooting stats. Aaron is our only guard with a shooting percentage above 40% from the field and he is barely above it shooting 42%. Until Young and the Harrison's start making some baskets defenses will continue to pack it in the paint and make it extra hard for our bigs to maneuver. It's making it extra hard for Randle, WCS and Poythress to maneuver to get easier looks..

I think we're more skilled than some of you are giving us credit for. Watch a lot of other college teams and then you'll realize how good our team is. We're playing well right - not great - but good enough to win against top notch opponents. Has WSU played against a defense like ours? We're a pretty darn good defensive team. If we do lose, I doubt that it's by a big margin. But I expect us to win this game.

Just make your darn free throws!!!

cmd,

I did mention WCS and as I mentioned he would be a non-factor offensively and defensively and he has been IMO.

Yes, UK's most skilled players are on the perimeter. The Harrison's and Young have played well, but not perfect.

WSU is carving UK up with their misdirection offense in the half court and Van Fleet is running the transition offense/fast break to perfection for them.

WSU is just a better team. I hope UK plays "perfect" the second half to have a chance.

Randle made the difference plus the twins came up big today, even with their turnovers. I don't think there is any doubt after today's game that they will be in the NBA next season, even though I don't think they are near ready for that level.

Poythress block on their run out near the end of the game was the play that I thought was as huge as any of the game.

Lets not forget the fact that Randle is "not" a perimeter player and went for 13 points and 10 big boards and was huge coming down the stretch.

Granted our perimeter players shot the 3 very well but lets also remember that our perimeter players had a very hard time guarding there perimeter players who went 10 for 21 from beyond the arc.

Trey, I can now honestly say that every starting player on the Wichita team is 'not' more skilled than every one of our starters. It also should be noted that Wichita perimeter players went 10-21 from beyond the 3 point line and we still beat them because we shot 54% from the field and 44% from the 3 point line. It also should be noted that Cotton certainly didn't come close to being the best ball defender in all of college basketball. He also was 1-4 in f/g's and scored only 5 points.

Also Van Vleet is not better than Harrison (either one of them) when you look at all-around game.

Baker is a good shooter and heady player, but James Young plays better defense than him. [Eek!]

Cleanthony Early... well, he's the real deal offensively.

In the end we just were more talented than Wichita State.
