Calipari interested in Bulls’ coaching job.

quote:
Sources say Calipari “hasn’t connected” with Kentucky’s athletic administration in his first year on the job, and that could contribute to his willingness to rekindle a long-standing goal of realizing NBA success.

Sounds like the honeymoon may be over. We will just have to wait and see what happens.

This situation is getting bigger by the minute. The other UK sites are lighting up like a Christmas tree. I hope Calipari comes out and says something real quick or we may be in some deep do-do...

CMD,

As Cal has alluded, every time a new coaching position comes open, the "grapevine" will be full of these rumors. Those guys have to say something. Cal can easily be "connected" to people around most any BBall position because of his network (WWW). Larry Brown, his "mentor" jumped around all the time too. If Cal had gotten the NCAA title this season, with everyone bailing out, he might have considered this position. I think he'll hang in, get a Ring, see how the NBA "labor" situation goes, and sometime, three-four years, poof, he'll be gone.

Nothing against Cal, I think he's already been GREAT for us. But it's just the nature of the business. This charade with academics/student-athletes will grow old I'm sure. Hey, give Orlando Antigua a couple of years and he might make a heck of a replacement. That guy came up and prospered through HELL.

RC2, I like Antigua and he knows how to recruit but we need a couple more years with Calipari to get the program on it's feet. Losing all the players to the NBA this year puts us back to square one if he does go to Chicago.

Hopefully this thing will blow over but knowing what we do about the past and Calipari it's a big concern for sure.

Couldn't agree with you more, I said "give Antigua a couple of more years". If you guys are gonna worry about this every time a job comes available you're gonna get ulcers...lol.

RC2, That's for sure on the ulcer comment. Let's face it i think we all knew Calipari was not going to retire at Kentucky. He is a great recruiter and a good coach, we have and will benefit each year he is here. We just need a couple of years more to get the Kentucky name back up on top where the recruits want to come to Kentucky and not Calipari's school to the NBA. The assistants under him are learning his system and contacts which will benefit them in the future. Hopefully one of them like Antigua will take over once Calipari does leave. Anyone who thinks he will be here more than 3 years is just not thinking properly because it won't happen. No one should blame him because we knew it when he came here, enjoy him while he is here and wish him well when he leaves. Remember above all that Kentucky basketball is bigger than any coach no matter who he is.....

ESPN'S Andy Katz confirms..

http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20100504/SPORTS03/5040347/Kentucky+s+Calipari+not+interested+in+Bulls++job

Now , can get back to the business of talking about how Coach Cal will continue to rebuild and reload Kentucky Basketball?

You might as well be prepared for this to happen every year. Either NBA teams are going to be interested every year or recruiting rivals are going to say the NBA is interested.

I don't seem to recall that happening under Coach G. So which way would you rather have it?

Its a big deal cause we as ppl on these sites make it just that, lets be honest he isnt going anywhere he just locked up a great recruiting class and is fighting tooth and nail to add Jones. Why work that hard, and then he has the'11 class coming in (which is gonna be ridiculous) and he def wants to coach Gilchrist. He hasn't conquered the NCAA yet no ring, he desperately wants one. He isn't going anywhere till he wins one. If he wanted to go coach the NBA he would have contacted the Knicks, New jersey, or Cleveland already and it would be a rap already cause the only way he leaves is to Coach Lebron.. And Cal knows Lebron would have followed him there. It is pure speculation and ESPN is getting the much needed reaction it wanted, right now UK basketball is hot and everyday there is some news of UK on at least one of their shows. And we are falling in their trap agreeing with them and worrying. CAL TILL AT LEAST HERE TIL 2012!! GUARANTEED!!
