Fast forward to 1979. Vitale has just been fired as Detroit Pistons' coach. About a week later, he's still downcast. "Sitting at home, watching soap operas," he said. "Luke and Laura."
The phone rings. It's Connal, saying he remembered the talk Vitale gave his team in Rupp Arena. Connal says he's now working for a new all-sports network, ESPN, and he asks Vitale to work its first college basketball game, DePaul-Wisconsin.
