An honest man of integrity and humility. Something rarely seen around Washington these days.

I had mixed emotions about his presidency, but I never doubted his love for this country. My prayers go out to the Bush family as they grieve.

BTW, say what you will about the two Bush presidents, but they did one thing right -- when they left office, they kept a low profile and mostly stayed out of politics. Can't say that for the three living democrat ex-presidents. Carter, Clinton, and Obama leveraged their positions to continue to push the leftist agenda long after they left office.

I respect his service to our country. I was not all in for Bush, the way I am for Trump, but he was way smarter than his son, who I could not stand.

Bush Sr advised his son not to take over Iraq. He Ignored the advice of the former POTUS, former head of the CIA, and his father.

Had forgotten about Ross Perot, the oil guy with the giant satelite dishes for ears. Had he not took his share of the votes, Bush might have been a two term President, instead of a one and done.

I agree that Bush Senior made mistakes and was far from the perfect president.

However, he was willing to admit mistakes and remained humble throughout his life. He spent his entire life attempting to serve his country in the the best way he knew how. He was a family man his ENTIRE life. He willingly served his country and put his life in great danger at a very early age. I feel certain he would have been able to avoid the draft if he was so inclined. He was not a braggart or blowhard. He showed respect to all, even those who disagreed with him.

I realize those traits do not make a great president. However, in my mind they go a long way toward making a great person.

Fully agree, Handy.

He volunteered for the Navy, and became the youngest pilot ever.

He flew 56 combat missions, and his plane was shot down once. Two others died, he escaped with his life. He has often questioned "why".

He served as Nixon's ambassador to the United Nations, and then was the head of the CIA. He also served as Ford's Special Envoy to China.

He ran for senate and lost, but later ran for congress and won. He also ran for president in 1980, but didn't make it out of the primary. Reagan chose him as his VP candidate. He served two terms as Reagan's VP, then was elected president after Reagan's second term ended.

He partnered with Bill Clinton to raise over $200 million for Katrina victims.

He skydived for fun, saying it was far better than parachuting out of his plane when he was shot down. He marked every 5-year birthday with a jump out of an airplane. On his 90th birthday, he told his daughter that he thought he had one more in him.

He was truly a great American, and served his country in an amazing variety of ways. Rest in Peace, President Bush.
