I'm betting that JQ was able to play when the season ended but he was afraid he would get hurt and wouldn't get drafted high. This player injury crap has got to end somewhere. If they are going to be paid millions in NIL $$$ they better be able to earn it. You either come work to do just that or you lose that portion of your NIL while you ride the bench. You can't have your cake and eat it too, as the old saying goes.

Sadly, for me, the answer is "Nope. Don't really care much".
And that is sad. I used to really love UK athletics, especially of course basketball. But, this crazy "evolution" may still be baseketball, but there is no continuity, no "program" other than who we can buy this year.
Not my cup of tea. I hate to admit this, but I didn't watch a single game this year.

Tip,
Same for me. I watched parts of about 9 or 10 games. I don't think I watched a full game live from Tipoff to Finish. Just not the same anymore.
The good thing. I was able to do a lot more things and not worry about missing a game. I will admit it was kind of nice. Makes me think I wish they would have started paying players 50 years ago. LOL.
-------------------- Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

Not me, I continue to watch as much college basketball as ever. Maybe more. Same with college football.
The only difference for me is that I now have more to complain about with NIL and the transfer portal. I was tiring of only complaining about the refs, the bias of the commentators, Bruce Pearl and Duke. Color me stupid. [ 04-01-2026, 11:24 AM: Message edited by: handycat ]

I think I am probably in the minority.
A lot of people are tuned in more than ever. I just struggle trying to get behind a guy that played at a rival the prior year and he is now playing for your team. I think Aberdeen and Diabate are great young men, but to me they are still a Florida Gator and a Alabama Crimson Tide and not a Wildcat.
That is why I have lost interest. At least the High School one and done kids didn't play elsewhere.

Agree! All what players do now is enter the transfer portal for a larger NIL package. They have to limit players to transfer only one time.

That is a HUGE part of what bothers me. That, plus the outrageous sums of money these kids are paid. Now, it isn't just "profit sharing" with the university over the use of their "name, image, and likeness", it is "go and suck the donors dry and raise obscene funds to pay for kids". And let's drop the pretense that these are "college athletes". There is virtually ZERO association between these teams and "higher education".

I have basically lost all interest. Can’t stand nil and all the crap it has brought. Guys are paid millions and then don't play. This was a lousy season from start to end. Pope telling all that would listen how great this group was going to be. Anyone that has ever played the game could see that was a lie. There was no talent on the roster. No shooters, no rebounder, nothing. If the payroll was anywhere close to 22 million, Pope needs to pay it back out of his salary and the useless assistants. Hate to say but Pope needs to go.

The problem is the NCAA is not longer running things. The courts are. You can say "limit transfers to one year" all you want, but you really think the courts are going to say that the NCAA can limit a person's earning potential? Somehow, congress has to change this by classifying college athletics in some way that doesn't afford it the same employee/employer relationship of the average job.
I think the only real solution is contracts that are binding and spell out performance clauses and time limits, etc. But everyone will have to be on board because if one university does it and nobody else does, it will kill their program.

Yup! All about the money and PT.
To wim it all you need certain things. To start with you have to have a couple (at least) of lock down defensive guys. Next you have to have a big who can control the board most of the time. You have to have a go to shooter who is reliable 70% of the time. You need a play maker supreme with a reliable back up. Thayt\\t's most of it and we did not hardly have any of that. What we had was an average team that could excel above their heads once in a while. We did not have nearly a championship caliber team this year. Who knows if we'll be better next year or not. We have a chance right now for the top player in the recruiting class but he would need a couple more top recruit and some good help from the portal to answer some of the needs I mentioned above. Not sure how well Pope will do in getting the roster we need for # 9.

We should be getting close to having a bucket full of money to attract some good talent with the defections we are getting. When Quaintance annouces for the draft that should clear up a tremendous pile. [ 04-03-2026, 10:54 PM: Message edited by: Bama Cat ]

Yup! For a number of years UK has become Injury Central. Are the kids we get just injury prone? Are we not preparing them right? It sure puzzles me why we keep getting injuries.

This link shows Moreno creeping up in mock drafts.
https://www.aseaofblue.com/kentucky-wildcats-basketball/162441/malachi-moreno-nba-mock-drafts-big-boards-ranking.
I’ve heard, but can’t verify, he will be testing the NBA waters. He supposedly said if he plays college basketball next year it will be at UK. My guess is if he attempts to go the NBA route he will be told what he needs to work on and be back next year.
I consider myself to be quite the expert in these matters so you can take this to the bank. Or not.

Yeah it makes sense to test the waters. He is not ready for the NBA. The question is, can Pope get him ready? I have my doubts.

I think the way to fix all of the transferring is to make these kids sign a contract. I had to sign a two year no compete contract with my company. I can quit anytime I want too but I can't work for another aviation company for at least two years. This NIL crap is out of hand. I applaud President Trump for at least trying.

If Chandler stays i'll be happy. With Williams, Moreno and Chandler we have a good center and our two best shooters. That's something to build around.
Over 3000 college basketball players are expected to enter the portal. And if the powers in charge don't see this as a problem, then there's just no hope for college basketball.

I honestly did not expect Chandler to leave. I liked him but I think UK can do better. He came up big a few times but disappeared at times too. I wish he had stayed. It will be interesting to see how he does next year with a different coach.

cORRECT. iT'S ALL ABOUT THE nil. pOPE CUT HIS OWN THROAT BY NOT OFFERING ENOUGH $$$. i DON'T KNOW WHAT HE OFFERED BUT IT EVIDENTLY WAS NOT ENOUGH. Looks like we may start the signing season with 6 I have seen where some top transfer as well as frosh are looking at UK. Maaybsignees. Williams, Noah, Moreno, Potter and Hawthorne (redshirts, if they stay) and a new 4 star Williams. Almost like starting over 2 years later. Will he make it? Who knows, but it looks like our NIL$$$$ are not enough to go with Popes coaching. If he doesn't get lucky in the pool this year it ceould be all she wrote for his tenure at UK. Sad. I have seen where some of the top freshmen are looking at UK as well as some of the4 better ones in the pool. [ 04-09-2026, 02:38 PM: Message edited by: Bama Cat ]

You know if you think about it the career and legacy of a coach is directly related to what boosters are willing to pay the players. The shrapnel coming off the grenade called nil can inflict injuries in many ways. Think about it, if Tennessee wants UK to suck they just offer our potential recruits more than we offer. Pope's name on the front of the jersey mantra no longer holds water. A player under the right situation can play for 5 different SEC teams. The bottom line as I see it lies with both programs who have the deepest pockets and the current "coach of the day" who, with these funds, consistently put players in a position to make even more money. I honestly believe that Calipari left UK due to the loss of control over how and how much these $$$ are distributed.

chandler asked for $3.2M, Pope said no. But here is the odd thing in that whole story. Chandler's wife had already moved back to Utah BEFORE Chandler made his decision.
Very, very fishy.
