I think Cal is really great at player development. The only issue is he is maybe the best coach ever at developing NBA ready players, the issue is that often means they regress as a college player which makes no sense, but it happens so consistently that I think it is true.

Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

That's all he has made this program about. It has nothing to do with winning in college, and everything to do with getting to the NBA. I think the culture he has created is the reason we haven't won any more championships. Players are bought into getting to the NBA and not really focused on winning as much.

This is the heart of the problem. It is all about incentives.

Cal is concerned about keeping the talent pipeline flowing, via deliving high-potential players into the NBA. That is a self-inflicted wound; if he had simply come here to build a dominant college basketball program, I think he would have succeeded. But he caught caught up in his own innovation -- recruiting high-talent players stuck having to play college ball for one year before they are eligible for NBA riches.

Imagine if Cal suddenly switched gears, and started recruiting and devleping top-notch 4-year players. We would suffer through at least two down years, and we fans would be howling for his head. He knows that, so he keeps feeding the NBA and telling us how great that is. Old-school fans aren't buying that BS, but I guess we don't really have the power to make much difference.

I think it would be pure luck if Cal ever wins another college championship. His teams are not recruited, nor developed, with that as a primary goal. We would do well to remember that.

You nailed it Tiptree ! I'm thinking seriously this will be my last year watching Kentucky basketball. It's nothing more than semi Pro it's worst than 1 and done. If I watch any at all it will be like who cares who wins. NCAA Div.I is gone in all sports. Guys are playing 25-26 years old. Young talent are not going to beat these guys. Cal's players from 2015 and up are NBA stars 5 or 6 are on the all-star team. So imagine if they had stay 4 years the great teams we would have had, well maybe considering the coach we have. It's not any fun anymore watching the cats.
