These two guys are making our team MUCH better by their consistent, excellent play. Oscar, Toppin and Livingston together make it very, very hard on the opponents to defend. Really like the "old school" 3-big lineup. Even if Ware is in that mix, we just play better with 3 bigs.
Can't wait to get our guard corps back to full strength. CJ in particular does all the little things correctly, and makes this a better team. He moves relentlessly without the ball, sets good screens, passes well, and plays good defense. He is the "glue guy" for this team.
Reeves, Wallace, CJ, and Wheeler all bring different features to the team. IMO, it should be CJ and "somebody else" on the floor most of the time in our backcourt. [ 02-23-2023, 05:27 PM: Message edited by: Tiptree ]

Livingston has turned into a beast. Toppin has really impressed me of late. I like Fredrick but I’m not sure about the statement of him and someone. I like Wallace and someone, even if he has fell off of late. I sure wish C J would start shooting like he did with Iowa.
Nice to see a positive post about our Cats. [ 02-23-2023, 09:06 PM: Message edited by: handycat ]

Our offense seldom gets CJ open. He would have to get open before he'll look like he did at Iowa. He may be one of those that never hits his peak at UK. What we need right now is Wheeler to get in there and cause some pressure on Wallace for PT.

I love the Wallace, Reeves backcourt. We really need Savir and CJ to get back so the two starters can get a little rest. Playing 35 minutes per game will catch up with all of them come tournament time. I like Ware and Collins too.

Cason needs to be on the floor 34-36 minutes a game. He is in a shooting slump right now and my hope is that he will break out of it soon. His floor game is exceptional and if he starts scoring, look out. We can lock down the 3 seed with wins versus AU and Vandy. Not sure if we can beat Arkansas on the road. Go Big Blue!

Livingston has been awesome, and Toppin has been great lately. I hope they can both keep at this consistently.
CJ is important to this team, as a I said in another stream, and basically exactly what Tip said. The only thing I'll add is that his presence just opens things up for drives and the posts. Defenses do not leave him even if he is not shooting great. Unfortunately, he will not be the shooter he was at Iowa because of Cal's bad offense. He is not a guy that's just gonna beat his man too often, and he needs good screens to get his shot off. I wish Cal could figure that out and run some specific stuff to get open 3's. Hope I'm wrong and he come back hitting 3's at a 40% clip, and making about 3 a game.

I just wish great shooters could shoot playing for Calipari. Don't look now but Dontae Allen is 24-48 on three pointers in his last seven games. Those are numbers that CJ should have. CJ shot 47% for Iowa two years ago, but can only shoot 33% for Cal.

When I say "CJ and somebody", it isn't because of his offense. It is because he does everything else so well. As ukman said, he keeps the defense honest and spaces the floor when he is on the arc, and he warps the defense because he is ALWAYS cutting and running without the ball. I wish I could confirm it, but I suspect we are plus a bunch when he is on the floor.
But yeah, Wallace and Reeves have proven to be the best scoring duo, without any doubt. If we go with the three bigs lineup, then Wallace and Reeves are definitely our best guard combo. But if we go with two bigs, put CJ in there!
