Because of Cal's preference! Yes, it's because of his knowing HIS preference is ALWAYS RIGHT!
Well, when he started at UK he promised this would be the GOLD STANDARD school. And it was for a few years when he could recruit the BEST OF THE BEST. Bur as time went on other schools saw what he was doing with the 1 and done and cut into his self-acclaimed territory. And then he was not so good at recruiting the kids he designated as his 1st choices.
We all know those kids he wanted and originally could get. Recently we could name the ones he wanted but someone else got them, in particular Coach K. His empire had crumbled and he was forced to fight harder for anyone ranked in the top 10, especially if they were caucasion and 6-10 and taller.
For example let me be more specific. Last year a kid named Juzang carried the UCLA Bruins to the title game before losing. This is the same Juzang that couldn't crack the starting lineup after a whole season at UK. Why you ask? Let me tell you.
He was not a Top 10 kid, a 5 star rated player and when CaL has several 5 star players on the team, that is who gets most of the reps in practice and who gets all the practice attention to help them get better.
Cal is a non-believer in guys getting better in college with training. He doesn't know how to really improve a players abilities. If they are not already a top player he has very little time for them.
An example of that was Juzang. He was just supposed to be a good shooter. Where have we seen that recently? Allen??? Who knows. I hope wherever he decides to finish up they give him a chance to grow. He needs to be the one to put the final nail in Cal's coffin.
