I just don't understand why Cal does not find this kid more minutes. He played very well for the 5 minutes he was in tonight in the first half and then doesn't see the floor the second half.
I think the kid is a special player at the offensive end of the court and he is getting better defensively as well from what I can see in the few minutes he gets.
I would rather see him get 15 minutes a game and Toppin 5 minutes most nights (Toppin was great against Texas A&M and for about 7 minutes against LSU, other than that he can dunk and that is about it). [ 01-26-2022, 12:21 AM: Message edited by: Trey Ball ]
-------------------- Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

And another thing - late in the year when we need Bryce or another bench player for any reason, they need to be game ready. And that ain't gonna happen if they barely play during the year. Most kids get better with experience, not sitting on a bench.
I feel about Grady the way you feel about Toppin - if Grady isn't raining 3-pointers all game I don't think he really adds much to this team. I'm not saying Cal should bench Grady, but he could afford to sit him down for more stretches in favor of other players.

Mintz is the guy who could get fewer minutes. Don't get me wrong... I love Mintz when he is on. But last night it was very clear his head was NOT in the game. He was clearly reluctant to shoot, and when he did, he shot some horrible clunkers (after Cal ordered him to shoot more). Even worse, I can't count the number of times he was burned for easy points on defense.
IMO, Grady is much improved defensively, and offensively has has much more variety in his scoring arsenal than Mintz (or Allen).
I agree with Trey that Hopkins can be the "x factor" to push this team from good to great. He needs more minutes to get that comfort to blossom. But I can say the same about Toppin. Those are two very talented forwards. Sure, give some of Toppin's minutes to Hopkins, but split that time more or less evenly. But, I would give a significant portion of Mintz's minutes with Hopkins and Allen. Mostly to Hopkins. [ 01-26-2022, 11:32 AM: Message edited by: Tiptree ]

Now that we are on subs, how about Allen last night. You could see it looked like he had woke up and was giving more effort. Thus he got more minutes while some of the guards were benched. With Mintz and wheeler in foul trouble it looked like he was everywhere.

I think it was a previous game against MSU when Calipari was kicked out of the game and Allen played several minutes in the latter part of the game and helped UK beat them.

Cal is in a real bind tomorrow that could prove very embarrassing. With Washington and Toppin out Hopkins and Allen could prve invaluable. I didn't realize that KS is only 3 games behind us in the alltime wins standings. Wow! How many games have they gained on us during Cal's time here??

Kansas has picked up 16 games on us over just the last three years.
