Don't worry Norm. We're not going to the NCAA tourney! We may not make the NIT!

Losing the battle on the glass and giving up a higher FG percentage are both huge contributors to today's loss!

My grandson said Brooks was a no show. I didn’t get to see the game. This team wasn’t capable of winning 4 in a row in Nashville anyway. No chance of post season play with the PG play we have.

we have the worst point guard that I have ever seen in the cal era. The last two possessions where askew drives in an attempt to dish it out was a mistake as he should have gone to the hoop, Then the last one - total joke. Can't win with him playing simple as that!

Very few freshmen are ready to be in the starting lineup in D-1 basketball. They should to be coming off the bench for 8-10 minutes a game, if that. Davion Mintz was a 3-star PG coming out of high school and he's arguably our best player. I wonder why that is? I don't think any of our freshmen would be starters for any other power-5 school. Maybe Jackson, but that's it. [ 02-28-2021, 12:26 AM: Message edited by: PaulCat ]

Norm, this team will be in no post season tournament other than the SEC tournament which they will not win. The NIT won't even want them this year. Their record is 8 wins 14 losses, that is not a tournament resume.

This is the worst point guard I can recall ever seeing at Ky, Askew had better get an education, he has no future in basketball.

Cal will recruit over Askew and he will eventually transfer or simply not play. We already have one PG committed to UK next year, albeit he's a 4-star. But if Terrance Clarke stays then he'll probably play a lot of PG as well.

Paulcat, Sarr did start for a power-5 team before he transferred.
I think Jackson would be a star on another team. And Sarr would be amazing at a place like Gonzaga, where they know how to stretch the floor on offense. Brooks could play anywhere. Toppin might not start on another team, but his rise has been phenomenal, and I think he will be great next year. Ware is a "journeyman" big man, who will probably always come off the bench, but will have a positive impact on the game.
Our three freshmen "stars", however... not so much. Hard to say with Clarke, since he has opted to duck the rest of the season. He is 100% going in for the draft, as will Boston, and both will be making a mistake. Askew may or may not declare (or transfer), but I hope he either learns how to play college ball, or sits on the bench.
If Mintz and Sarr opt to take their extra year of eligibility (and they should, IMO -- Sarr has done nothing to improve his draft status this year, and Mintz is not likely to be drafted at all), and Brooks, Toppin, and Ware all return, we will have a solid nucleus that Cal can blend with some freshmen. Heck, I hope Askew surprises everybody and becomes a good point guard next year (if not, he might be better playing off the ball anyway). In other words, the future looks a lot brighter than this year.
Big Oscar, Sarr, Brooks, Toppin, Ware, and Collins will make a top-tier front-court. Hickman will immediately improve our backcourt, but we will need Mintz and Askew to stay or we will be out hunting for more guards. Glad I had the option of moving my Final Four tickets to next year.

Yeah Tip, I was referring to just the freshmen. In my opinion, Jackson is the only one who should be starting as a freshman in college. Boston is not that good as a freshman, and Askew has no business at UK. His game is not suited for Cal's style of offense.

Oops, yeah. I misread your post.
Agree that none of our freshmen "stars" were ready for college ball, except for Jackson, who is a STUD now, but started off pretty shaky.
Also agree that even those freshmen that ARE more-or-less college ready should mostly play limited roles as freshmen, with upperclassmen earning most of the playing time. It would be a rare freshman (Davis, or KAT, or Wall) that starts and plays significant minutes in a "normal" world. But in Cal's world, everything has to be crammed into one year, which is mostly impossible.
As has been said many times, I hope Cal opens his eyes and starts changing his recruiting strategy to pull in one or two One-and-Dones, with the balance solid 4 or even 3 star players that can be developed. [ 02-28-2021, 11:05 AM: Message edited by: Tiptree ]
