Freshman Isaiah Briscoe continues to impress not only Kentucky fans, but also Kentucky coach John Calipari.
“He’s confident and he’s comfortable in his own skin, so he really doesn’t worry about anyone else because he knows who he is. We are just trying to define him in a way where everyone will watch and say, ‘Wow, I love that kid,’ and it’s beginning to happen,' said Calipari.
"The way he can defend, the way he can rebound, he’s so fast and strong physically and he’s so good with the ball. His shooting is good. Now there may be some people who say, ‘Well, we’re not going to play him.’ Good luck. He did average 25 a game in high school. He did shoot like 38 percent from the 3 in high school.
"I’m proud of him and I’m happy with what he’s doing.

Here is what he is doing for the Cats and it looks awfully good! He is 58% from the field, averaging 12.7 points per game and on defense is averaging 6 boards a game.

He is more ready for the college game this early in his career than the other two freshmen sensations, Murray and Skal. They probably have more natural talent that Briscoe does but his American AAU play over the years has prepared him for the college game more than the prior high school careers of Skal and Murray have.

I think Cal is a little premature, he may turnout to be a good or bad 3 point shooter as he is 2-7 from the point line currently. This doesn't tell you a whole lot but would bet he will be a adequate three point shooter throughout the year.

I am very suprised at our low three point shooting percentage through the first four games. I don't think we have been working on that aspect of the game as much as we have been taking their man off the dribble. We are going to see more zones as the season goes on and that is when we will find out how good our three point shooters really are.

If you look at our guards who normally our shooters we have shot 25% from the 3 point line and if you look at the team as a whole we are shooting 27.6% from the 3 point line.

Bruce, I think they have been concentrating a lot on the dribble drive offense and not putting in a lot of time on shooting three point shots. They are much better shooters than that percentage implies.

We must remember in a lot of cases great 3 point shooting in High School hasn't always translated to great 3 point shooting in college. We have had that problem in the past.

Here is the different distances for high school, college and the nba. Distance matters and it takes freshmen sometime to adjust to the college 3 point distance.
NBA – the 3 point arc is 22 feet to the center of the rim on the sides with a straight line extending out 16 feet 9 inches from the baseline. Past those points the line extends out 23 feet 9 inches from the center of the rim.

Men's College--The 3 point arc is 20 feet 9 inches

Men's High school-- The 3 point arc is 19 feet 9 inches, with a straight line (arc) extending out 5 feet 3 inches (63 inches) from the baseline.

Our 3 point shooting wasn't good at all last night as Murray did the best going 2-5 but Willis went 0-3, Briscoe 0-1 and Ulis had a bad night going 1-5. We ended up at 20% when you add-in Hawkins at 0-1.
